Job Description

The Program Manager (PM) is responsible for leading storage platform development projects from initial project scope planning through hardware/firmware development/validation and into production. The right person for this position exhibits leadership qualities that enable them to manage multi-discipline small & large multi-functional and possibly geographically distributed teams. The position manages the engineering and program deliverables for the project through the PLC (Product Life Cycle).  They organize program budgets, create and maintain schedules, and prepare detailed reports to present in business meetings and in regularly scheduled program reviews with executive management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for managing technical work, budgets, and schedules to ensure timely and quality deliverables
  • Regularly communicate and lead meetings with engineering staff, partner organizations, and management
  • Direct the resources of the technical team, and report on progress, issues, and problem areas
  • Look for ways to improve efficiency and accuracy to more effectively develop products with improved processes, tools and templates. You are in a high visibility position that can really make a difference
  • Develop and manage Project Plans for development projects based on Product Requirement Documents/ Statements of Work and other documentation. These plans will contain tasks, milestones, resources, and schedules
  • Control project risk through ongoing risk identification, assessment, review, and mitigation
  • Deliver quality products on time, schedule, and budget
  • Ensure all PRD/SOW items are fulfilled
  • Conduct regular technical project meetings with the development team and program core team meetings with the extended core team
  • Monitor prototype and production BOM cost in partnership with engineering and supply chain
  • Prepare project status reviews and other formal reviews
  • Monitor and evaluate 3rd party partner performance
  • Monitor engineering team workload and time charging
  • Ensure product life cycle processes, checklists and reviews are completed
  • Collaborate with technical leads and company management to prioritize tasking across projects
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering preferred, with a Minor or Masters in Project Management or Business Administration
  • Certification in PMP or other project management related certification preferred
  • Experience managing both Hardware and Firmware development
  • Expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project
  • Proficiency with waterfall and agile project development processes
  • 15+ years of previous experience in the design and manufacturing of storage platforms in support of Data Center Systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to anticipate and solve program issues
  • Strong organizational skills and pay close attention to detail
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills

Compensation & Benefits Details

  • An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
  • The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.  We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York.  This range may be modified in the future.
  • You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance.  Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program, and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan. RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires, subject to Western Digital’s Standard Terms and Conditions for Restricted Stock Unit Awards.
