Job Description: Business Development Manager

Effective Leadership Academy (ELA) is an educational non-profit that partners with schools and youth serving community partners providing students and educators with a rigorous curriculum for 21st Century Skills development, reinforcing essential social emotional learning and work force development skills. ELA has grown from partnering with 3 schools in 2008, to developing relationships with over 240 school/community organizations and impacting over 50,000 students.

This is an exciting time to join our growing team as we have expanded beyond Ohio and predict continued growth.

POSITION:

The Business Development Manager is a senior team member at The Effective Leadership Academy in a critical customer- facing role driving and managing new business opportunities. The ideal candidate should be motivated by a desire to increase the impact and financial success of the organization via newly originated contracts with schools and youth-serving organizations and ensure program success from inception to completion.

EXPECTATIONS:

New Client Management and Growth:

  • Identify and cultivate opportunities for business growth with new school and youth serving clients
  • Attend networking and educational meetings to drive new business
  • Design targeted sales campaigns focused on reaching annual strategic goals
    • Provide monthly updates on the progress of business development initiatives against the set strategic objectives
  • Manage sales marketing materials both print and digital within assigned budget
  • Contribute during monthly marketing team meetings
  • Ensure smooth client process from program inception to completion
  • Manage meetings, budget development, contracts, and assist in scheduling of newly contracted programs
  • Engage with clients to ensure program satisfaction and take proactive approach to manage issues or problems
  • Analyze and share program feedback and impact with key client contacts and decision makers, with the goal of securing repeated and/or expanded contracts
  • Manage the handoff of firmly established clients at the appropriate time to the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
  • Coordinate ELA's participation at conference events to promote and expand school and youth programming including vendor tables and session presentations

Program Facilitation:

  • Responsible for delivery and facilitation all of ELA programs, delivered both in-person and virtually online.
    • Program delivery typically averages 10% of role and will vary at times
  • Deliver programs employing ELA divergent learning pedagogy, serving as "guide on the side," to enable students to construct meaning from their experiences.
  • Manage the classroom and participants during training by tracking attendance, addressing inappropriate behavior, and documenting performance, both strengths and development needs.
  • Administer the pre/post assessments and develop program impact reports.
  • Form relationships with students and build community and rapport, motivating and inspiring them, giving them confidence to make positive choices in their lives for success in school and beyond.
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, teachers, school administration, and depending on the program, parents and/or community members.
  • Maintain open communication to report any potential and/or current issues with ELA Director of Programs.
  • Responsible for all administrative tasks related to program/program preparation, including preparation of program materials/program review/updating PowerPoints to adjust for time and school language

Strategic Thought Planning

  • Collaborates as a Senior Team Member to shape business strategy, develops plans, analyzes data
  • Aligns departmental goals to achieve key growth in organizational objectives and program operations

REPORTS TO: Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree preferred
  • 5-7 years of non-profit and/or educational leadership or sales experience
  • Proven track record of success in program management and organizational efficiencies
  • Self-starter and able to work independently
  • Strong interpersonal, motivational, relationship-building, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and superior time-management skills
  • Solid decision-making skills and analytical thinking
  • Budget management and forecasting experience
  • Working knowledge of Monday.com is a plus
  • High energy and positive mental attitude
  • Committed passion to making a difference in the lives of youth
  • Flexibility and the ability to prioritize new tasks as they come in
  • Desire to grow within an organization is preferred
  • Valid driver's license and own, reliable transportation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, and WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to be present at ELA offices, NEO schools, businesses, or organizations to physically facilitate, observe, or assist with programming when assigned
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand as well as observe details within the workplace or in programming to engage coworkers, students, clients, and perform essential functions
  • Stand and interactively present/facilitate material for several hours over the duration of programming
  • Ability to drive/sit for up to one hour or more while traveling to programming and/or client meetings
  • Ability to lift and safely transport up to 20 lbs. of program materials from office to car to school/organization and/or move up to 20 lbs. across office for various needs.
  • Must be able to be in a stationary position to operate computer, type, (for extended periods of time/50% to 75%) use copy and printing machine, and other office machinery as needed
  • Ability to position self to maintain files in desk, cabinets, or facilitation materials
  • For occasional virtual meetings/programming:
    • Self-provide a secure, private, and stable internet connection
    • Be able to work in a private, reduced-noise environment free from distractions and interruptions
    • Be able effectively operate Zoom/alternative meetings
    • Be able to perform ELA programming function via Zoom/alternative
    • Sit/remain in a stationary position for at least 60 minutes while facilitating
  • The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position as required

SALARY: $58,000 plus multi-year retention bonus
