Job Summary: The Youth Services Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating & initiating educational and social programs for youth at Tenderloin Family (i.e, tutoring program; monthly art and engagement activities); orienting residents to Youth Services, helping to identify services/programs that best fit their needs; coordinating youth leadership services with internal departments and community organizations; assisting other CBOs in programing and outreach; building partnerships with organizations that have children/youth programs; and recruiting and managing skilled volunteers to enhance the quality of programming. The position requires a self-motivated, creative and organized individual who has cross cultural and interpersonal skills and can work with youth and family in a fast-paced, diverse working environment. 

Status: Full-Time, Nonexempt, Regular

Location: Tenderloin neighborhood, San Francisco

Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., plus some nights and weekends

Salary: $28.60 - $30.11 per hour; Comprehensive benefits

We own and/or manage approximately 30 affordable housing buildings serving over 3,800 low-income seniors, single adults, formerly homeless adults, and families of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds in San Francisco’s Chinatown, Tenderloin, Western Addition, and Polk Gulch neighborhoods. General Job Responsibilities:

  • Initiate, organize, & coordinate educational and social programs for youth
  • Initiate, organize, & coordinate youth and intergenerational activities, multicultural celebrations, and community building activities
  • Assist other CBOs (i.e Boys and Girls Club -Kroc Center) in programing and outreach
  • Build community and cultural competency among youth residents living in multifamily housing
  • Promote multicultural youth leadership development; identify, recruit, and retain youth leaders by offering learning opportunities to strengthen youth leadership skills through youth-led projects and community services
  • Meet with City Departments and CBOs, like the Boys and Girls Club, regularly to update program status, assess families and youth’ need and develop plans to ensure needs are met; discuss case plans and progress; assist in programming and outreach
  • Work with parents and youth to address the needs and issues youth are facing; develop plans that set positive short-term and long-term goals
  • Coordinate educational and social programs for diverse youth to develop their confidence, leadership and academic skills
  • Collaborate with Resident Services Coordinator to plan, implement and evaluate youth and intergenerational activities
  • Initiate and/or coordinate activities with other internal organizational departments
  • Offer mentorship to youth in need of assistance to assure that youth are socially and academically prepared for the next educational milestone
  • Develop on-going cooperative network and partnerships with internal/external youth service groups
  • Recruit and manage skilled volunteers for youth activities
  • Complete/ maintain activities budgets, program report, other paperwork and documenting.
  • Develop and/or coordinate hands-on activities for middle and/or high school students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or combination of education/experience in working with youth
  • One (1) year experience in developing, organizing, and implementing youth-related activities.
  • Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, the needs of low-income housing residents
  • Interest in and ability to work with culturally diverse people, including low-income people living in distressed communities.
  • Takes initiatives, and has the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and follow through skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced and active resident/team environment.
  • Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, Internet.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, in an oral and written fashion
  • Professional commitment to the mission of Chinatown CDC
  • Knowledge of community resources and services, with particular emphasis on Tenderloin area. 
  • Experience in community-building and leadership empowerment, especially working with culturally diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the Tenderloin.
  • Biliterate in English and Arabic , or Spanish, or  Chinese, or Vietnamese
