Job Summary:

The Resident Services Coordinator provides services to a diverse group of adults and families within a cluster of formerly public housing in Chinatown. This position works within a trauma-informed care model utilizing best practices and recognizes the impact of the social environment and the importance of community to improve an individuals’ quality of life. This position is responsible for planning and coordinating on-going onsite programming including health and wellness, aging-in-place, education and cultural events; community organizing, and community building and engagement; provides information and referral helping residents in need of higher care coordination including APS, and clinical support; utilizes clinical techniques such as de-escalation and motivational interviewing; develops new relationships and partnerships with outside service providers to bring new ideas, resources to our residents; and supports residents around housing stabilization needs. 

The position requires a motivated and resourceful individual who is sensitive to residents' needs; has excellent service coordination, team-building and group facilitation skills; and thrives in a relatively independent work environment in a team setting with other providers. 

Status: Full-time, Nonexempt

Location: Chinatown neighborhood, San Francisco

Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. plus some nights and weekends

Salary:  $28.60 - $30.11 per hour; Comprehensive benefits

Essential Functions:

  • Provide direct services such as general information, referrals, light case management, translation/interpretation assistance and service connections to local social service and government agencies to an increasingly higher needs population 

  • Organize, set-up, implement, and evaluate on-site and off-site educational, social, and recreational activities that may include, but are not limited to health, aging-in-place and nutrition; safety, fire drill and disaster preparedness workshops; holiday celebrations; outings; voter education; collaboration with Pings resident association (PYRIA), community engagement manager and community organizing team for larger cross-cultural community building eventss 

  • Collaborate with onsite staff, other CCDC departments, and city funders 

  • Build, maintain, and monitor relationships with social service agencies to bring additional programming to the property 

  • Provide technical assistance, staffing support and translation services to all resident groups 

  • Support residents facing housing stability issues including applying for rental assistance 

  • Gather, track and provide information for city mandated reporting 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Complete initial and ongoing outreach to residents inviting them to access services as needed; orient new residents to Resident Services, working with them to identify services/benefits that best fit their needs  

  • Work on other resident services projects such as an Inter-Property field trip, food programs (Meals on Wheels, food box program, food drives, food pantries, etc.), holiday events and greening activities 

  • Support resident leadership and empowerment through volunteerism and working with residents to recruit and sustain volunteers for programs  

  • · Work with property staff and residents to develop and implement activities and systems that promote safety and security 

  • Work with the Clinical Director to assess residents in need of more clinical support, referring them to the in-house Wellness Team 

  • Educate and/or link residents to community/neighborhood projects that impact their quality of life, so they may provide input  

  • Complete administrative functions such as case notes, intake, activities budgets and data entry in RS database and other paperwork as needed

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field and two (2) years of experience in providing direct services in the form of information, referrals, and/or linkages to community and public resources to low-income populations and one (1) year of experience in developing, organizing, and implementing group activities, or  

  • High school diploma or GED and a combination of five (5) years of experience in providing direct services in the form of information, referrals, and/or linkages to community and public resources to low-income populations as well as experience in developing, organizing, and implementing group activities  

  • Bilingual and biliterate in English/Chinese  

  • Experience working with older adults  

  • Experience working with adults with mental health and or substance use issues  

  • Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, the needs of low-income population  

  • Ability to travel and coordinate services for a cluster of buildings in Chinatown

  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to community organizing as a tool to increase resident engagement and leadership development  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of local resources and public benefits assistance 

  • Experience delivering services to public housing or permanent supportive housing resident communities. 

  • Experience working with on-site Property Management to promote housing stabilization/retention for low-income residents 

  • Experience working within a Harm Reduction Model 

  • Familiarity with the resources available in the neighborhood and surrounding neighborhood of the work site 

  • Prior experience measuring program outcomes
