REPORTS TO:                Program Manager, Homeless Services, San Diego

FLSA STATUS:               Full Time, Non-Exempt

TIME COMMITMENT:     Overnight availability Required 40 hours/ week; Tuesday- Saturday

SALARY:                         $20.00-21.00 per hour DOE

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Caseworker Coach I overnight is an essential member of Rachel’s Night Shelter Team responsible for ensuring participants are served in clean, safe environments. Supports residents in meeting realistic attainable goals that lead to obtaining safe, stable housing. Develops a strong working knowledge of community resources and establishes collaborative working relationships with colleagues within and outside of Catholic Charities. Motivating, supporting, and guiding the people we serve is a shared responsibility for every member of the team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Welcome and orient new participants to the shelter; complete initial intakes and explain program routines and behavioral expectations
  • Provide a consistent presence in the facility while remaining mindful of residents’ physical, emotional and psychological safety  
  • Prepare meal supplies and assist with serving meals as needed. Oversee after-meal clean up and ensure supplies are fully stocked for the following day
  • Assist participants in developing life skills (e.g. how to use showers, laundry facilities, maintain the environment, resolve conflicts, navigate social service delivery system, etc.)
  • Supports residents in following through on established goals, check-in with participants after off-site appointments, document progress and barriers to success and identify possible solutions. Assist with problem-solving
  • Assist participants in gathering and obtaining documents necessary to achieve their goals and obtain housing
  • Ensures facility is clean, well maintained and support participants in completing chores in a timely and efficient manner
  • Keep supervisor apprised of issues, problems, complaints and/or concerns expressed by residents
  • Documents services provided, maintain sign-in logs and other record-keeping processes; Documents significant events in the daily log and email notes before the end of your shift
  • When applicable, facilitate participants’ access to technology used to meet with internal CC and external service providers
  • Fosters a trauma-informed, safety-focused culture within Rachel’s Promise
  • Develops a comprehensive base of knowledge of county-wide resources that address the needs of people experiencing homelessness. Maintains current knowledge about community resources.
  • Participates in case management, training conferences, and program monthly meetings as scheduled.
  • Works collaboratively with coworkers within Catholic Charities Homeless Services Programs and establishes collaborative relationships with colleagues from other agencies providing similar or complementary services.
  • Documents all contacts with residents in files and Clarity HMIS and may include entering information into CES (Coordinated Entry System for housing placement)
  • Completes and submits all required monthly reports and assigned paperwork as needed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • When applicable, facilitates participants’ access to technology used to meet with internal CC        

 

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Associate’s degree in Human Services, social or behavioral sciences or related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum one-year experience serving people experiencing homelessness, living with substance use disorders, and/or mental illness
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn and grow
  • Well-developed listening skills
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred but not required, must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Successful completion of a live scan background clearance
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches to service delivery. Prior knowledge of Motivational Interviewing, Stages of Change, Housing First, and harm reduction approaches to service delivery is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to become proficient with database software.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently.

certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid California Driver’s License and automobile insurance in compliance with Agency requirements
  • Successful completion of DOJ/FBI Live Scan and TB Screening. Current CPR and First Aid training or the ability to complete training.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is also required to sit and work at a computer. May need to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
