As the Sorting Lead, you will oversee and organize sorting department mail from customers, vendors, and partner locations in the local area. This position will also include assignments & back-up duties in between jobs received. These duties will be assigned by management and can/will change from day to day.


Job Description: Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited, to the following. Please note other duties may be assigned accordingly.

Mail Sorter Responsibilities

  • Inspect and restock supplies at the beginning, during, and end of shift as needed.
  • Attend daily production meetings/huddles to prioritize job schedules for assigned equipment.
  • Load & prepare all necessary materials for job assignments.
  • Quality check mail to ensure accurate sorting and quality barcodes and communicate errors and bad barcodes if found.
  • Troubleshoot and remove mail piece jams from the machine.
  • Place sorted mail from machine bin into mail trays according to assigned zip code label or assigned bin number.
  • Create and change bin numbers on trays as needed.
  • Pull mail trays off the sorter, sleeve, and strap mail sleeves accordingly.
  • Organize mail tray onto designated zip code pallets for delivery to the Post Office.
  • Wrap pallets with plastic wrap accordingly.
  • Follow Standard Work procedures.
  • Make ready, operate, maintain and have ability to troubleshoot the mail sorting process as needed.
  • Follow QC procedures and complete all paperwork, checklists, logs, and computer functions (job scanning and tracking, client profiles, changing jobs, etc.) in accordance with Standard Processes.
  • Interact closely with other departments.
  • Ensure associates maintain safety and OSHA standards.
  • Responsible for cleanliness of area and maintaining 5S standards, while driving continuous improvements.
  • Comply with all current and future security and compliance requirements.

Additional Mail Sorter Lead Responsibilities

  • Report to the Production Supervisor at the beginning of the assigned shift to discuss daily assignments and changes.
  • Perform pre- and post-shift physical inspection of automated sorting equipment and supplies for jobs.
  • Receive, organize, and prioritize assigned jobs for daily sorting.
  • Input and assign customer jobs into the system to begin the sorting
  • Verify scanning areas on mail pieces are correct for the sorting
  • Review rejected mail pieces to verify the rejection reason and how to correct for reprocessing.
  • Review system to ensure all inkjet printers are chosen according to the mail pieces/job assignment.
  • Load & prepare all necessary mailing pieces for job assignments.
  • Supervise sorting team members to ensure mail has been sorted into correct mail trays according to assigned zip code label or assigned bin number.
  • All other tasks as assigned by Manager or Senior Management.

  • Advanced knowledge of mail & print industry equipment specific to sorting equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and accurately execute work orders and special instructions from supervisors.
  • Detail oriented & quality consciousness to spot check and provide Quality Assurance on jobs.
  • Ability to receive training and instruction at all skill levels.
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1-year experience operating mail sorting equipment.
