Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in Training Program: Attend and complete the 40-hour theory instruction training program focused on obtaining a CDL Class B license with Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brakes endorsements.

  • Assist Experienced Drivers: Work alongside experienced school bus drivers to gain practical, hands-on experience in driving, safety protocols, and student management.

  • Safety First: Learn and adhere to all safety standards, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections, student crossing safety, and railroad safety procedures.

  • Student Management: Develop skills to manage student behavior on the bus, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all passengers.

  • Route Familiarization: Assist in navigating established bus routes, becoming familiar with local traffic regulations and geographical areas within Baltimore County and Howard County.

  • Customer Service: Provide friendly and professional interaction with students, parents, and school staff, representing Barr Transportation's commitment to exceptional service.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Understand and follow all federal, state, and local regulations related to school bus operations, including FMCSA ELDT requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Age: Must be at least 21 years old.

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Driver's License: Valid Maryland driver's license with a clean driving record.

  • Background Check: Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including drug testing and fingerprinting.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including sitting for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Availability: Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings and afternoons.

  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to follow written and oral instructions.
