Position Overview

Role Summary:

As a Student Transport Operator at Barr Transportation, LLC, you will be essential in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of students to various school-related events, including athletic competitions, educational excursions, and other extracurricular activities. This role may also involve stepping in as a temporary driver for standard school routes when necessary. A strong emphasis on safety, a positive demeanor, and exceptional time management abilities are crucial for success in this position.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Transport Duties:
  • Safely convey students to and from athletic events, educational trips, and other school functions.
  • Serve as a substitute driver for regular school bus routes as required.
  • Ensure timely arrivals and departures for all assigned trips and routes.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized bus environment.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to confirm the bus is in optimal working condition.
  • Comply with all traffic regulations and school transportation guidelines.
  • Implement and adhere to safety protocols, including managing student behavior on the bus.
  • Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the maintenance department.
  • Customer Relations:
  • Communicate effectively with school personnel, parents, and students.
  • Create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for all passengers.
  • Address any passenger inquiries or issues in a courteous manner.
  • Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Keep accurate records of trips, including mileage and time logs.
  • Complete any necessary documentation related to transportation activities.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements.
  • Clean driving history with no significant traffic violations.
  • Previous experience as a school bus driver or in a similar capacity is preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Strong understanding of traffic laws and regulations pertaining to school bus operations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and capable of working a flexible schedule.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods.
  • Capability to lift and assist students as necessary.
  • Dexterity to operate bus controls and conduct vehicle inspections.
