Job Overview:

As a Substitute School Bus Driver for Barr Transportation, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school, as well as various school-related activities. This position requires flexibility, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to adapt to different routes and schedules as needed. Your role will involve stepping in as a driver when regular drivers are unavailable, providing consistent service and support to our school communities.

Key Responsibilities:

Transportation Duties:

  • Drive School Bus Routes: Safely transport students on regular school bus routes as a substitute driver when required.
  • Adaptability: Be prepared to cover different routes and schedules on short notice, ensuring all students reach their destinations safely and on time.
  • Bus Maintenance: Maintain a clean and organized bus environment, ensuring the vehicle is ready for daily operations.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Vehicle Inspections: Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the bus is in good operating condition.
  • Safety Protocols: Adhere to all traffic laws and school transportation policies, implementing and following safety protocols, including managing student behavior on the bus.
  • Report Issues: Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns to the maintenance team promptly.

Customer Service:

  • Communication: Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and students, providing a welcoming and friendly environment for all passengers.
  • Problem Solving: Address any passenger concerns or issues in a professional and efficient manner.

Administrative Duties:

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of trips, including mileage and time logs.
  • Documentation: Complete any required documentation related to transportation activities.

Qualifications:

  • Licensing: Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements.
  • Driving Record: Clean driving record with no major traffic violations.
  • Experience: Prior experience as a school bus driver or similar role preferred.
  • Screening: Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of traffic laws and regulations related to school bus transportation.
  • Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliability: Reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting: Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Lifting: Capability to lift and assist students as needed.
  • Dexterity: Dexterity to operate bus controls and perform vehicle inspections.
