Supplier Quality Specialist/Engineer

About this role

We are seeking a motivated Supplier Quality Specialist/Engineer to assist our incoming inspection team with the day to day inspection activities and also work with other team membersr to ensure that suppliers provide high quality products that conform to engineering specifications and regulatory requirements. 50% of this role is dedicate to incoming inspection and 50% to supplier quality activities.

The qualified candidate has an in-depth understanding of measuring tools, such as CMM, thread gauges, calipers, micrometers, optical comparators and GD&T principles. The Supplier Quality Specialist is responsible for examining materials for quality and defects on incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products.

In addition, this person will be responsible for qualifying new suppliers, investigating and resolving supplier quality problems, analyzing defect trends, and leading continuous improvement projects. Strong communication skills are required to ensure suppliers understand requirements and expectations, make progress reports and present findings.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine or first-article inspection on purchased components using precision measuring tools, instruments, and optical comparators.

  • Manage supplier issues arising at incoming inspection or on manufacturing floor
  • Use the ERP system, excel spreadsheets, and drawing database to access information and drawings and transact parts within the ERP system.
  • Evaluate and assess the impact of nonconforming product and follow up with suppliers on corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Lead the qualification of new suppliers, including supplier selection and approval (PPAP).
  • Responsible for coordinating initial component quality requirements, including first article inspection, process qualification, control plan, Gauge R&R, etc.
  • Generate KPI’s and supplier metrics, including producing quarterly scorecards for supply base
  • Ability to identify under-performing suppliers and work with them to improve or reduce defect occurrence rates, initiating transfer activities to alternative suppliers if necessary.
  • Ability to work independently, managing all requirements of supplier management program. Where possible, propose and implement continuous improvements for responsible areas.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering and 4 years of experience
  • Work Experience with the manufacturing inspection and acceptance of machined, forged, and casted components.
  • Familiarity with industry standards i.e., ANSI, ASTM
  • Working knowledge of the Quality Management System and ISO 9001 standard
  • Strong understanding of 8D root cause corrective action process. Ability to lead and guide suppliers with effective root cause analysis and deploy corrective action(s).
  • Familiarity with APQP and PPAP and process tools such as PFMEA and Control Plan
