The Welding Inspector works directly with the Quality Assurance Manager, coordinating, analyzing, and directing welding processes and inspection.

Main Tasks and Key Responsibilities:
  • This position reports to the Quality Manager and is based out of the Ashland, KY workshop.
  • Analyze, issue and managing welding procedures for the fab shop and suppliers.
  • Follow up Pre-WPS and PQR process and issue final WPS.
  • Support the fab shop for welder qualification and issues during production.
  • Plan, prepare and review relevant welding documentation submitted by the shop or by suppliers.
  • Verify WPS procedure are followed by the fab shop.
  • Inspect by visual and NDTs the welding jobs.
  • Support and follow up external labs for certifications and Failure Analysis.
  • Coordinate visits with vendors/suppliers to check and inspect welding activities.
  • Coordinate with Quality Department to certify engineering improvements.
  • Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems.
  • Develop relationships with suppliers and customers.
  • Travel is expected in the US. Maybe necessary to travel international.
  • Know how to issue NCR in case of non-conformities.
  • Organize periodical and/or urgent inspection at supplier or customer sites.
  • Coordinate with Quality Department how to improve final inspections at supplier and customer sites.
  • Ensure training of workshop workers concerning quality issues.
Must Have's:
  • Preferable experience in companies manufacturing equipment for the steel industry and knowledge of the manufacturing process.
  • Knowledge of technical specifications and drawings.
  • Welding processes, Welding Inspection and NDTs
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills to interface with Customers in a professional manner.
  • Teamwork.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access). Use of internal software such as OW OneCad and NCR 3.0.
Work Context and Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, carry, finger, grasp, feel, talk to communicate, speak over public address system, hear, and be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Work Conditions: Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. Exposed to elevated noise levels and extreme heat and cold.  Physical hazards - Close proximity to moving parts, hot surfaces, pinch points, sparks, sharp edges, high pressure air, oxygen and gas lines.
