POSITION SUMMARY:

HIAS seeks an Intake Coordinator, Housing Assistance to welcome and enroll new asylum-seeker families into the Ms. L Settlement Housing Assistance Program (MLSHAP). Funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), the MLSHAP provides housing assistance to asylum-seeker families. The Intake Coordinator, Housing Assistance will be supported by the Housing Strategy Specialist and the Social Services team and will receive referrals from ORR, orient and register families for the program, and coordinate with the team of Housing Coordinators to ensure all families receive quality and timely housing assistance services. Work will be conducted virtually.

Note, the salary for this position is $60,000.00, and this is a full-time, temporary position that starts ASAP and ends September 30, 2024, with possible extension.

This position can be based at our headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, our office in New York, New York, or Austin, Texas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages inflow of referrals from ORR; communicates with ORR about successful contact and intake attempts.
  • Offers warm welcome to all new referrals, introduces the MLSHAP, and conducts initial intake paperwork with clients.
  • Creates case files for all new referrals.
  • Manages waitlist; provides updates to clients.
  • Ensures all new referrals have a Housing Coordinator assigned to their case and arranges first Housing Needs Assessment meeting between Housing Coordinator and client.
  • Participates in monthly peer review of case files.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience working in affordable housing, homeless services, and/or refugee resettlement.
  • English and Spanish fluency required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for collaboration with other team members and conducting intakes with asylum-seeker families.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, setting boundaries, and strengths-based service provision with vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 platform, including SharePoint and MS Teams, preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word is essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfort with public speaking preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving, conflict resolution, and mediation skills; ability to adapt and maintain composure in challenging situations.
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Self-starter able to manage, coordinate, and carry out varied functions of multi-faceted program.
  • Travel, to include travel to insecure operating environments, may be required.
