Summary: Are you passionate about making a difference and building strong community connections? Join us as a Volunteer & Community Relations Specialist at HumanKind, where you will play a key role in shaping our social media presence, fostering a robust volunteer program, and driving our community outreach efforts. Reporting to the Director of Communications, you will collaborate with the Development Team to implement comprehensive strategies that enhance our organization’s impact and reputation.

In this dynamic role, you will develop and champion HumanKind’s social media strategy, creating engaging content that connects our constituents with our mission. You will manage and grow our volunteer program, recruiting, training, and placing volunteers in meaningful roles that support our programs and events. Your work will help build a supportive and vibrant community for our staff, volunteers, and the individuals we serve.


Success In This Role Looks Like:

  • Volunteer Program Management: Develop, update, and implement a successful volunteer program. Recruit volunteers through various sources, ensuring compliance with licensing requirements, and manage volunteer paperwork and background checks in collaboration with HR.
  • Social Media Strategy: Lead the social media strategy, creating content for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Develop creative social-first content to increase followers, reach, and engagement.
  • Community Outreach: Work closely with program staff to align volunteer opportunities with programmatic needs. Coordinate with other departments to create job descriptions for volunteer roles and track volunteer progress.
  • Event Leadership: Provide leadership and oversight for volunteers at special events. Assist with interviews and storytelling to drive content for social media and digital channels.
  • Content Creation: Collaborate with team members to produce compelling content, including photos and videos, that aligns with the HumanKind brand and mission.
  • Data Reporting: Establish a system for gathering social media data, creating meaningful reports, and presenting metrics to the Communications Team and Leadership Team.


What You Bring To The Team:

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Adobe, Canva, and social media analytics tools.
  • Communication: Strong storytelling abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and experience in writing for digital and print publications.
  • Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively within a team, build strong relationships, and manage multiple project deadlines efficiently.
  • Digital Savvy: Up-to-date knowledge of digital media, social channels, and content platforms. Experience in managing online communities and producing digital content.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead volunteer programs and manage community outreach initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing or communications
  • 2-4+ years in digital media, social media, or community management roles
