Business Development Manager
Description
This role will be key in identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing new markets, establishing and maintaining relationships with relevant local partners (i.e. municipalities, city councils, chambers of commerce, industry associations, etc.), and performing other due diligence tasks in markets that are not currently served by the company.
We are looking for a proven leader with the ability to quickly enter new markets with credibility, stay ahead of the competition, and generate value for our shareholders by making new market selection a core competency of the company.
Responsibilities
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize new markets based on demographics, competition, cost to pass, and strategic fit, among other variables.
- Establish and maintain relationships with municipalities, city councils, chamber of commerce, community and business leaders in current and future markets. These relationships will be transitioned to construction and sales leaders once a new market is confirmed.
- Work closely with internal leaders and external partners before, during, and after the expansion processes, to ensure investment/expansion makes strategic sense, fits with the forward-looking business plans, and can be executed as planned.
- Closely monitor competitors and other fiber overbuilders' actions across the Midwest and have a detailed understanding of the industry, market, and product/service trends affecting competitiveness, both short term and long term.
- Maintain a deep understanding of and advise the business on local market trends and implications for business strategy.
- Prepare and present findings, proposals and ongoing updates to senior executives of the company.
- Continuously improve a robust and comprehensive market selection model and process.
Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years in business development, market expansion, government relations, sales or M&A roles.
- Graduate degree preferred or similar academic/professional experience
- Deep knowledge and understanding of Cable/Telecom industries
- Strong financial and analytical skills, including the ability to develop a strategic perspective for target identification and evaluation
- Experience working with cross-functional teams like construction, sales, engineering, and operations
- Demonstrated problem-solving /decision-making skills with the ability to understand and identify inorganic pathways to growth
- Strong leadership skills and experience leading teams to execute all aspects of transactions including direct experience in negotiation, execution, and integration
- Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual and analytical rigor
- Ability to clearly communicate compelling messages to senior executives and external business partners
