Position Summary:

The IT Specialist provides general IT assistance across all city departments, delivering in-person and phone support for various IT-related functions. This position is responsible for Tier 1 Help Desk Support, managing third-party software support, conducting software maintenance and troubleshooting, providing training and user support, and maintaining both hardware and software.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Tier 1 Help Desk Support:

a. Respond to and resolve user issues and requests via phone, email, or in-person.

b. Document and track issues using the help desk ticketing system.

c. Escalate complex issues to higher-level support as necessary.

2. Third-Party Software Support Management:

a. Coordinate with third-party vendors for software support and updates.

b. Manage software licenses and ensure compliance with agreements.

c. Provide support for third-party applications used by city departments.

3. Software Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

a. Perform regular maintenance on software applications to ensure optimal performance.

b. Troubleshoot and resolve software issues.

c. Implement software updates and patches.

4. Training and User Support:

a. Provide periodic training sessions to staff on the use of city software.

b. Create and maintain user guides and documentation.

c. Assist staff with software-related questions and issues.

5. General Hardware and Software Maintenance:

· Maintain and troubleshoot computer hardware, including desktops, laptops, and peripherals.

· Install, configure, and update operating systems and software applications.

· Ensure the security and integrity of IT systems through regular updates and monitoring.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

1. Education and Experience:

a. High school diploma or equivalent required.

b. associate’s degree in information technology or related field preferred.

c. Minimum of two years of experience in IT support or a related field.

2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

a. Proficiency in troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

b. Familiarity with help desk ticketing systems.

c. Knowledge of operating systems, software applications, and network systems.

d. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

e. Ability to provide effective training and support to end-users.

3. Certifications:

a. CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), or similar certifications preferred.

Working Conditions:

1. The IT Specialist will primarily work in an office environment but may be required to travel to various city department locations.

2. The role may involve lifting and carrying equipment, as well as occasional after-hours work for system maintenance and upgrades.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

2. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

3. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, tools, and other computer components.
