Position Overview: This multifaceted role encompasses various responsibilities related to accounting, job cost accounting, and purchasing functions within our company. The Accounting Specialist will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial records, efficient job costing, and timely procurement of materials and supplies. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including processing invoices, reconciling statements, and preparing payments.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in accordance with accounting principles and company policies.
  • Track and analyze job costs to ensure accuracy and completeness of project expenses.
  • Prepare job cost reports and variance analysis to monitor project performance and profitability.
  • Work closely with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely recording of project expenses.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of cost control measures to optimize project profitability.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory levels, materials usage, and purchasing transactions using inventory management software.
  • Review purchase orders and contracts for accuracy and compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Controller with month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
  • Support the Controller in budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls.
  • Provide administrative support to the accounting department as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the financial health and operational efficiency of the company.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting, job cost accounting or purchasing role
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and job costing principles is a plus
