Summary

Maintain, diagnose, and repair all CARC, Inc. vehicles and small engine equipment efficiently and safely. Perform timely preventative maintenance to minimize downtime. Recommend repair part purchases and ensure emergency repairs are handled quickly and safely. Ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, excellent troubleshooting skills, and can work independently.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance on vehicles and other equipment such as fluid changes, lubrications, tires, safety inspections, and brake repairs.
  • Conducts regular and as needed inspections on vital equipment to ensure safety and availability of the Fleet, to include equipment requiring mechanical services.
  • Maintains maintenance records on all vehicle and equipment.
  • Troubleshoots vehicle systems on a limited basis, accurately identifying causes of maintenance problems. Recommends and performs subsequent repairs.
  • Follow procedures to include documenting correct mileage/hours, save and tag warranty and core parts, document all repairs on work order using compliant, cause, and correction format.
  • Perform final operational test on all vehicles to quality-check all repairs.
  • Accurately and professionally documents all actions taken in written and electronic format. Completes all necessary forms (e.g., repair orders, service truck logs, warranty tags, etc.).
  • Prepares work orders, prioritizes required repairs, updates vehicle maintenance records and coordinates repairs with outside vendors.
  • Provides install, service and support with Fleet GPS monitoring, tracking and follow up investigations as/if required.
  • Coordinate with outsourced maintenance done by venders.
  • Research and schedule unit recalls and upgrades from manufactures.
  • Changes and repairs tires.
  • Provides emergency roadside services, minor repairs, and assists in vehicle recovery.
  • May assist in training employees (drivers) on proper use of vehicles and maintenance procedures.
  • Actively and continuously improves professional knowledge, skills, and abilities by participating in routine training sessions and educational seminars relevant to position and job duties.
  • Meets attendance requirements, participation in meetings and training sessions
  • Must understand and adhere to all industry safety standards and practices. Safely operates vehicles and equipment. Proactively maintains a safe working environment with regard to all job duties. Routinely attends and participates in safety training, meetings, and inspections.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Certification in automotive or diesel technology preferred.
  • Satisfactory experience of at two years as a fleet equipment technician.
  • Valid Driver’s License - Must be insurable by the liability provider
  • Strong knowledge of engines, transmission, tires, brakes and other controls
  • Solid knowledge of electrical systems, air systems, chassis and suspension, HVAC, and transmissions.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems; operation and repair.
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and safe working practices and procedures
  • Frequent ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, reach, grasp and use tools
  • Ability to push/pull Ability to lift /carry up to 80 lbs.
  • Skilled in the ability to read and interpret safety precautions, correctly interpret the Material Safety Data Sheets for the materials that are used on a daily basis.
  • Demonstrated ability to use prudent judgment and problem-solving. Ability to read, understand, and use maintenance, repair and parts manuals, computer-based maintenance information systems, service updates and troubleshooting guides
  • Safety first for all duties relating to vehicles and equipment. Hazardous material/hazardous waste handling and disposal regulations.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills to communicate with customer and resolve customer issues, complaints, or concerns
  • Available to work flexible hours and on-call shifts as needed/scheduled
