The Chief of Academic Advising is responsible for leading university-wide academic advising strategies and managing a team of professional advisors while collaborating closely with faculty mentors.
This role is situated within the Center for Student Success and reports directly to the Associate Dean for Student Success.The Chief will oversee the coordination, management, and evaluation of undergraduate advising programs and practices to guarantee high-quality academic support for all students.
The incumbent will develop a comprehensive academic advising framework based on best practices and research focused on advising, student retention, and overall success.
This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and does not qualify for overtime compensation or compensatory time off for additional hours worked.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the Royal Advising initiative, which serves as Queens' model for first- and second-year undergraduate academic advising, in partnership with a faculty facilitator.
Supervise full-time professional advisors and support their engagement with designated student populations.
Organize and coordinate the academic elements of student orientation in collaboration with Student Life and faculty members.
Develop and implement a comprehensive training program for faculty advisors in partnership with department chairs, academic deans, and the Director of the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence.
Take primary responsibility for addressing escalated advising issues and assist readmitted students in understanding their academic progress and strategies for recovery.
Coordinate communication to students and advisors regarding academic early alerts, midterm warnings, and probationary statuses.
Maintain, update, and distribute resources that enhance students' awareness and comprehension of their academic standing and progress.
Act as a resource for campus stakeholders and committees focused on student retention and, when appropriate, lead retention initiatives.
Participate in the University's Student Support Team, a collaborative group of campus partners dedicated to addressing concerns regarding students' well-being and success.
Represent the Academic Advising and/or the Center for Student Success at various events and functions as required.
Other duties and special projects may be assigned to fulfill departmental and university needs.
