SUMMARY: The Grants Manager is a key member of Step Up’s Philanthropy Team and is responsible for researching, writing, and preparing grant and funding proposals for private Foundations. The successful candidate will be responsible for meeting performance targets for proposals and applications utilizing existing management tools. Strong project management skills are required. Once a proposal is awarded, the Grants Manager will write all Executive Summaries, Stewardship Letters, and reports, conducting post-award convening of all relevant parties. The Grants Manager is responsible for stewarding the entire grant process from start to finish. They will prepare related funder correspondence, accurately track report due dates and proposal deadlines, and manage information involved across departments in the grant process to ensure success. The Grant Manager will establish relationships with current funders and will cultivate new Foundation partners in regions where Step Up serves. The successful candidate must be self-directed and capable of working independently on proposals and reports with limited oversight. The Grants Manager reports to the Director of Philanthropy.

DUTIES: The following reflects essential functions for this job but does not restrict other tasks that may be assigned:

· Monitors progress of revenue objectives by establishing SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-based) goals that are carefully planned, clear, and trackable.

· Proven success in grant writing, grants management and administration, fundraising, and nonprofit writing.

· Strong math skills, ability to develop accurate project budgets, and development-related financial and other database-driven reports.

· Researching, developing, and cultivating ongoing and new Foundation relationships.

· Collaborating with the Development Team on short-term and long-term development planning, including operating plans and budgets related to the grants program.

· Identifying potential funding and revenue sources while helping maintain positive relationships with existing funders.

· Coordinating efforts of key staff members to ensure that documents are completed by the specified deadlines for grant proposals.

· Tracking and monitoring proposals, their deadlines, and requirements.

· Utilization of existing management tools.

· Research on current mental health issues impacting homelessness and policies to incorporate into grant writing.

· Provide support at fundraising and public relations events, including the submission of related funding applications and PR materials.

· Manage one or two full-time grant writer/s.

· Other additional duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred

· Minimum 5 years of grant writing experience

· Experience with corporate and private foundation grant writing required

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to write grant applications from concept, LOI, to full proposal

· Must be extremely well-versed in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

· Follow up on assignments, show initiative, be self-motivated, and have a strong work ethic

· Possess strong time management skills, including deadline prioritization of multiple projects with real-time timelines for assignments

· Strong analytical and organizational skills

· Exemplary diplomacy, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

· Must be able to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, and meet firm deadlines.

· Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and convey complicated procedures clearly and succinctly.

· Establish working relationships and interact effectively with various people internally and externally.

· Ability to take initiative and work independently.

· The ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure and maintain professionalism.

· Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.

· Desire for advancement.

· Current driver’s license and automobile insurance.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Work with people experiencing homelessness, whether on the streets, in shelters, or other places of habitation or services, may present inherent challenges and difficulties such as exposure to bed bugs or other infestations, unpleasant smells or odors, individuals who may have poor hygiene or unclean homes due to homelessness, mental health symptoms, or poverty. Additionally, in working with our members, employees may encounter instances of profanity, sexually explicit or derogatory language, or verbal or physical expressions of anger and trauma. These situations rarely escalate to physical contact and negative or derogatory communication patterns can often be negotiated successfully. All direct care staff are provided adequate training to develop skills to deescalate crisis situations that may arise, and Step Up has established procedural safeguards for all employees to mitigate (but not eliminate) these inherent risks of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee must frequently walk, balance, stoop, kneel, and/or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Keyboard data entry is required.
