Summary

The Carrier Sales Associate (CSA) will be responsible for establishing, expanding, and maintaining relationships with quality carriers. This role involves sourcing new carriers, managing a strong carrier network, negotiating rates, and ensuring timely and efficient transportation services to deliver a positive end-to-end experience for our clients. This position will focus on the domestic and cross border specialized heavy haul mode of transportation managing and procuring oversized and overweight cargo, such as construction equipment, industrial machinery, and large infrastructure components. An ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and professional grit to succeed in a fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks simultaneously.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Specialized Mode of Transportation: This position focuses on specialized heavy haul transportation, the role typically involves coordinating, managing, and procuring the transport of specialized, oversized and overweight cargo, such as construction equipment, industrial machinery, and large infrastructure components. Operations require specialized trailers, lifting equipment, and route planning to navigate the complexities of moving massive loads safely and efficiently. Equipment types may include flatbed, Conestoga, curtain side flatbeds, drop deck, step decks, or other based on dimensional needs. Key responsibilities include obtaining necessary permits, planning routes that account for weight restrictions and clearances, and overseeing the loading, securing, and transportation processes. The role also demands close coordination with clients, drivers, and subcontractors to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery while adhering to strict safety and regulatory standard.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with carriers, dispatchers, and load planners. Maintain constant contact with carriers to secure additional truck capacity and manage existing business. Act as a primary liaison between drivers and customers to resolve issues and ensure satisfaction.
  • Carrier Sourcing and Procurement: Identify, source, and procure new carrier relationships to expand the carrier network. Utilize TMS and other software tools to make informed carrier selection and load assignment procurement decisions. Ensure accurate completion of assigned loads, including coding of accessorial charges. Negotiate rates and service agreements for both spot and dedicated business.
  • Service Excellence: Manage the carrier network to ensure high service levels and customer satisfaction. Strategically match available carrier equipment with open loads to maximize efficiency. Track and monitor shipments to ensure on-time delivery. Promptly and effectively address, research, and resolve any transportation needs or issues.
  • Expectation Management: Confirm that each partner carrier has an adequate understanding of all customer and company expectations on each load at the point of dispatch. Ensure shipment details and process instructions are accurately communicated, promptly responded to, escalated, tracked, and monitored via applicable communication method or TMS.
  • Data & Technology Utilization: Navigate internal and external customer TMS and related technology tools ensuring all transactions, documentation, and interactions are accurately recorded and compliant with company standard operating procedures
  • Collaboration and Communication: Partner with internal teams to collaborate aligning carrier capacity with customer demands and operational goals. Communicate effectively with associates from other shifts to ensure seamless operations.
  • Market Trends: Stay up to date on the industry and market with the ability to adapt to the ever-changing market conditions.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned to support the overall logistics and sales functions.
Requirements:

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills to manage multiple shipments and deadlines.
  • Basic problem-solving abilities to handle disruptions in shipping schedules or other logistics issues.
  • Accuracy in tracking shipments, updating records, and managing documentation.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and service skills with the ability to always uphold professionalism respectful treatment of peers and customers. Take personal responsibility and keep commitments.
  • The ability to quickly adjust to new conditions, priorities, or challenges in a dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written comprehension skills.
  • Thrives in a team based collaborative environment with an independent result focus.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in a Business, Supply Chain, or related field, preferred.
  • Familiarity with Transportation Management System (TMS) and basic understanding of the logistics industry.
  • Prior experience in logistics, transportation, sales, or a service-focused role preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Suites (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to sit in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ongoing computer usage and typing. Specific vision abilities and fine manipulation required.
  • Frequent human interactions require listening, expressing, and exchanging ideas verbally and written.
  • Cognitive skills needed to complete tasks (e.g., learning, problem-solving, comprehending)
  • Light to moderate noise levels (i.e., business office with computers, phone, printers, light traffic).
  • Regular, predictable attendance.
  • Light lifting up to 20 pounds may be required.
