The Logistics Carrier Sales Specialist will play a crucial role in building, enhancing, and sustaining partnerships with reputable carriers. This position entails the acquisition of new carriers, management of a robust carrier network, negotiation of rates, and assurance of prompt and efficient transportation services to provide a superior experience for our clients. The focus will be on specialized heavy haul transportation, dealing with oversized and overweight cargo, including construction machinery, industrial equipment, and substantial infrastructure components. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and the determination to thrive in a dynamic environment while juggling multiple responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Specialized Transportation Management: This role emphasizes specialized heavy haul logistics, which includes coordinating, managing, and securing the transport of oversized and overweight freight. This involves utilizing specialized trailers, lifting equipment, and strategic route planning to navigate the complexities of safely and efficiently transporting massive loads. Responsibilities include obtaining necessary permits, planning routes considering weight restrictions and clearances, and overseeing the loading, securing, and transportation processes. Close collaboration with clients, drivers, and subcontractors is essential to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery while adhering to stringent safety and regulatory standards.
- Carrier Relationship Development: Establish and nurture relationships with carriers, dispatchers, and load planners. Maintain ongoing communication with carriers to secure additional truck capacity and manage existing operations. Act as the primary point of contact between drivers and customers to resolve issues and ensure satisfaction.
- Carrier Sourcing and Acquisition: Identify and engage new carrier partnerships to broaden the carrier network. Leverage Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and other software tools to make informed decisions regarding carrier selection and load assignments. Ensure accurate completion of assigned loads, including the coding of accessorial charges. Negotiate rates and service agreements for both spot and dedicated business.
- Service Quality Management: Oversee the carrier network to guarantee high service levels and customer satisfaction. Strategically align available carrier equipment with open loads to optimize efficiency. Monitor shipments to ensure on-time delivery and promptly address any transportation needs or issues.
- Expectation Alignment: Ensure that each partner carrier comprehends all customer and company expectations for each load at the point of dispatch. Communicate shipment details and process instructions accurately and ensure they are tracked and monitored through appropriate communication methods or TMS.
- Data and Technology Proficiency: Utilize internal and external customer TMS and related technology tools to ensure all transactions, documentation, and interactions are accurately recorded and compliant with company standard operating procedures.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with internal teams to align carrier capacity with customer demands and operational objectives. Effectively communicate with associates from other shifts to ensure seamless operations.
- Market Awareness: Stay informed about industry trends and market conditions, demonstrating the ability to adapt to the ever-evolving logistics landscape.
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall logistics and sales functions.

Education and Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
- Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and a basic understanding of the logistics industry.
- Prior experience in logistics, transportation, sales, or a service-oriented role is preferred.
- Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
- Frequent computer usage and typing, requiring specific vision abilities and fine motor skills.
- Regular interaction with others, necessitating effective verbal and written communication.
