Progressive Life Center, Inc. (PLC) is a Black-led organization, providing culturally-sensitivity human services to children, youth and families in the District of Columbia and surrounding Maryland, throughout Greater Philadelphia, and in most of Delaware. Program Overview

The Foster Care program provides comprehensive long-term temporary child placement services. Children from birth to twenty-years old are placed in the care of trained and certified families while they heal, adjust, and prepare for a permanent home.   While the program collaborates with our loving foster families to ensure that the welfare of each child in our care is the primary concern, the ultimate goal remains a permanent placement—reunification with a biological parent, adoption, or transition to independent.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the Program Directors, RTL Specialist, and other foster care staff.
  • Provide phone coverage during hours-of-service operation.
  • Respond and serve as program contact for information and questions regarding foster parent support information.
  • Maintain current correspondence with Foster Parents and referral sources.
  • Maintain ITP schedules with consultant Psychologist, Clinical staff, and Social Workers.
  • Serve as liaison to Headquarters and other PLC offices and facilitate program-wide communication.
  • Participate in administrative meetings; actively assist and comply with COA accreditation.
  • Receive visitors, interact with consumers and staff.
  • Sort and distribute mail.
  • Retrieve and distribute facsimiles received.
  • Assist RTL Specialist with maintaining the Baltimore RTL records
  • Manage DHR re-licensure production.
  • Use software applications to produce high-quality correspondence, reports and other documents.
  • Assist with staff meeting preparation, serve as scribe, and maintain meeting minutes.
  • Open and/or close office as necessary.
  • Enter and maintain accurate data into the database system.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration/management or human services preferred.
  • Administrative support experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with people from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of discretion, personal initiative and autonomy.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills a must.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and problem-resolution skills required.
  • Must have computer software experience using databases, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to be on call and often respond to situations during off hours which can disrupt normal sleep patterns and cause fatigue.
  • Ability to physically restrain children when required and protect the individual in physically confrontational situations.
  • Ability to face a significant amount of emotional stress which can cause related physical stress.
