The Director of Development is responsible for leading and managing the revenue generating efforts of the Girl Scouts organization, including events, solicitation campaigns, and public relations and marketing initiatives. This role focuses on building and sustaining the financial health of the organization through strategic revenue generating and effective communication of the Girl Scouts’ mission and impact.

Requirements:
  • Responsible for grant writing, researching, and coordinating the grant application process.
  • Write, edit, and submit high-quality grant proposals that clearly articulate the organization’s needs and project plans.
  • Manage the entire grant process, from application to reporting, ensuring all deadlines are met. Track the status of submitted proposals and provide regular updates to the leadership team.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive revenue generating strategy to meet annual revenue tar
  • gets.
  • Plan, organize, and execute major revenue generating events, campaigns, and community engagement activities.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and other funding sources.
  • Create and manage annual giving campaigns, major gift programs, and planned giving initiatives.
  • Oversee grant writing and reporting processes to secure funding from private and public sources.
  • Maintain strong relationships with current donors and the community.
  • Create and execute donor solicitation plans.
  • Collaborate with board members and volunteers to identify and approach potential donors.
  • Ensure timely and accurate donor recognition and appreciation efforts.
  • Implement a strategic public relations plan to enhance the organization's visibility and reputation.
  • Create compelling marketing materials and campaigns that effectively communicate the Girl Scouts’ mission and impact.
  • Develop and execute a branding strategy that highlights the "why" behind the Girl Scouts’ mission and community programs.
  • Create opportunities that showcase the positive impact of the Girl Scouts on the community.
  • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the development team, providing guidance and support to achieve departmental goals.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Team and board members on strategic planning and organizational development.
  • Monitor and report on revenue generating progress, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Cultivate and maintain a broad base of community contacts and positive community relations by meeting with and speaking with individuals and groups to promote Girl Scouting in the community, with a strong focus on developing and strengthening relationships between GSCM and key community partners.
  • Develop and employ tactics in carrying-out successful campaigns and delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with the Membership and Marketing/Communications Teams to provide cooperative community engagement, retention, and opportunities.
  • Implement and oversee campaigns to increase community awareness and revenue generating.
  • Work with Membership and Retention Director on identifying partnerships; strategies for community outreach and community partnerships (i.e., based on organization/schools needs/wants, offer programming and/or troops).
  • Support program and fund development efforts via basic grant management and reporting.
  • Stay abreast of trends among youth to remain relevant and proactive in order to best serve girls.
  • Represent GSCM and those we serve at relevant community meetings and coalitions, as assigned.
  • Develop and administer the Development Department budget.
  • Participate in Executive team strategic meetings and GSCM staff meetings.
  • Assist the CEO with special projects and other duties as assigned.


Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated results in revenue generating, philanthropic fundraising, and generating leads through technology.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field other combinations of education and experience that demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position may be considered.
  • Knowledge of Girl Scouts mission, values, and culture and/or willingness to learn and adopt them.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple on-going projects in a fast paced, diverse environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, organization, writing, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently and as a team-member.
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and apply critical thinking skills when making decisions and navigating conflict; capability to be creative in troubleshooting and resolving issues.
  • Flexibility, strong commitment to collaboration, self-reflection, and resourcefulness.
  • Strong ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds and establish rapport with others at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate staff, build team cohesion, and hold others accountable to expectations.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows and Office software; experience with other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or database systems, preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Must have current certification in CPR/First Aid for children and youth (or be willing to become certified).
  • Must be able to work a varied, flexible schedule, including frequent evenings and occasional weekends, and be willing to travel throughout the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland jurisdiction.


Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Incumbent must have a clean driving record, valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of insurance.
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Must subscribe to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement and become a registered member of Girl Scouts of the United States of America (GSUSA).
