PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for estimating costs on all custom paperboard packaging, providing formal estimates to sales, managing estimates for new and repeat jobs, maintaining a strong working knowledge of SCT capabilities, and advising team on information that is critical to new business development. Responsible for forecasting raw material needs and managing inventory levels to ensure availability. Authorizes and procures all paperboard to support the needs of production and forecasted needs.

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Collaborates with General Manager and Sales Manager to ensure the lowest possible cost of materials that will yield the best performance and achieve optimal results overall
  • Determines pricing estimates that support the overall business utilizing accurate production job costs including cost of materials, freight, corrugate, inks, tooling costs, dies, etc.
  • Collaborates with Customer Service and Sales to ensure all necessary information is received to provide an accurate estimate for paperboard packaging
  • Prioritizes and organizes workload and estimate requests to maintain high-levels of responsiveness while delivering optimal, accurate estimates
  • Participates in daily scheduling and job planning meetings with all stakeholders
  • Initiates board purchases and issues purchase orders to procure paperboard needed to support the current and forecasted needs of customers.
  • Oversees and manages the supply and inventory of raw materials to ensure materials needed are on hand and available to support customers with responsive service and minimal lead times.
  • Manages and maintains estimating parameters in Manufacturing ERP system
  • Analyzes carton structure type, thickness or caliber of board, substrate type, print styles or formats, etc. to determine best cost estimate
  • Provides recommendations to sales about carton specifications & functionality to help improve favorability of estimates that maximizes profitability.
  • Sets up and updates item information in manufacturing systems as needed to maintain integrity of data.
  • Provides guidance and direction to Operations and Sales as it relates to updates or information regarding new offerings of raw materials or vendor information
  • Actively maintains knowledge base of the relationship of SCT’s costs as it relates to SCT’s manufacturing capabilities and the associated impact
  • Partners with Plant Leadership to understand production capabilities and provides information and critical data to help ensure machine standards are kept current and up to date.
  • Seeks opportunities for continuous improvement of both process and data to identify trends, opportunities to improve and to positively impact financial results; actively partners with sales and operations to explore and implement improvements.
  • Participates on various special projects critical to drive process improvements and obtain organizational and departmental goals
  • Maintains strong vendor and supplier relationships through effective communication and collaboration; attends critical supplier meetings with Leadership team as needed.
  • Serves as a back-up to production scheduler as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3+ years of directly related experience in a cost estimating role; experience with cost accounting, and/or procurement of raw materials within the manufacturing industry is a plus.
  • Experience with cost estimating within the paperboard packaging and/or folding carton industry is required.
  • Experience with procurement of raw materials is preferred.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic accounting principles, including profit & loss, and has a strong working knowledge of machine and production capabilities.
  • Requires strong technical aptitude and proficiency with MS Office suite.
  • Must have experience working with Radius (Manufacturing Resource Planning software – MRP).
  • Ability to interact and manage critical relationships with raw material suppliers.
