R&D Director

- Manage and oversee the productivity of two Food and Supplement research scientists.
- Coordinate and participate in product development activities, including new product development, product improvement, and maintenance.
- Provide timelines, cost estimates, regulatory insights, and other guidance for new programs.
- Investigate and source new raw materials, develop testing specifications, and manage the validation of new test methods and processes.
- Oversee recordkeeping and ensure compliance with government regulations and manufacturing processes.
- Interpret laboratory results and report findings to management.
- Advise management and affiliates on scientific aspects of product performance and quality.
- Own assigned programs and work closely with the Chief of Manufacturing or Director of R&D to drive product launches from concept to completion.
- Lead program updates, next steps, and issue resolution during weekly status meetings with cross-functional partners.
- Evaluate lab, pilot, first production, and standard batch submissions promptly.
- Communicate necessary modifications or approvals to the lab via product submission forms.
- Prepare Product Fact Sheets, dossiers, presentations, formulation statements, manufacturing instructions, and technical reports under executive management supervision.
- Present product turnover to cross-functional teams.
- Maintain an organized system for benchmark submissions and related products.
- Conduct panel tests, create questionnaires, analyze data, and make recommendations based on findings.
- Stay updated on industry trends by researching the competitive marketplace, reading industry publications, reviewing social media, attending trend seminars and trade shows, and reporting on relevant product developments.
- Supervise up to four product development professionals in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding, disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a scientific discipline or equivalent, with five years of related experience and/or training.
- Demonstrated knowledge of common compounding techniques and reagents.
- Proven ability to supervise subordinates' activities.
- Read, analyze, and interpret scientific literature, technical journals, legal documents, and governmental regulations.
- Respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or the Legal Department.
- Write reports, business correspondence, and analytical method procedures.
- Present information effectively to company owners, management, Legal Department, and staff.
- Apply advanced mathematical concepts and statistical formulas to practical situations.
- Train staff in the use of these concepts as necessary.
- Proficiency with Database software, Development software, Manufacturing software, Project Management software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Interpret technical instructions in various forms and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
- Frequent sitting, hand use, reaching, talking, and hearing.
- Occasional standing, walking, tasting, or smelling.
- Occasionally lift/move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, and accurate focus.
- Frequent exposure to wet/humid conditions, mechanical parts, fumes/airborne particles, chemicals, heat sources, and electric shock risk.
- Moderate noise level.
- Potential travel by airplane, automobile, or other public conveyances.
- Any relevant certifications are a plus.
