Accounting Manager

Position Summary: The Accounting Manager will oversee the accounting operations, manage the accounting staff, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information. A critical part of this role involves managing Work-In-Progress (WIP) accounting to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of project costs.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
- Develop and implement internal controls and procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Work-In-Progress (WIP) Accounting:
- Manage WIP schedules, tracking project costs, billings, and revenue recognition.
- Review and analyze WIP reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Collaborate with project managers to monitor project budgets and forecasts.
- Ensure compliance with revenue recognition policies and guidelines.
Staff Management:
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and training as needed.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.
- Coordinate work assignments to ensure timely and accurate completion of tasks.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor budget vs. actual performance and provide variance analysis.
- Support strategic planning and decision-making processes with financial insights.
Audit and Compliance:
- Coordinate with external auditors for annual audits and reviews.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including tax filings.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records for audit readiness.
Systems and Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices.
- Manage and enhance accounting software and systems to increase efficiency.
- Lead or participate in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
- Proven experience with WIP accounting and project cost tracking.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
