Job Summary: This is a United States based remote position with travel required.

We are currently seeking a Systems Engineer for Power Servers with a primary focus on IBM i. This Systems Engineer will be part of the Power Systems services unit. This unit provides both project based and managed services to clients on IT infrastructure architecture and design and remote administration of large-scale computer and storage solutions. This person must have familiarity with data center operations, IT infrastructure design/analysis, infrastructure deployments and implementations, remote monitoring and administration of large-scale server environments, and backup/recovery of those environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Monitor daily operation of IBM i servers (e.g., space usage, CPU, memory, and performance).
  • Provide support for all issues related to IBM i systems.
  • Upgrade and patch IBM i servers as well as other components on the servers.
  • Maintain environment specific best practices documentation.
  • Work closely with the various client administration and application teams to provide assistance, support, security, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide SOX-compliant evidence, audits, logs, etc. as well as respond to all assigned audit points.
  • Work with business owners and vendors on projects and to resolve issues.
  • Evaluate the technology environment from a high-level perspective and recommend changes.
  • Maintain Disaster Recovery configuration/plans and execute Disaster recovery tests.
  • Build new IBM i LPARs using HMC tools.
  • Have working experience with performance tuning and change management.
  • Have working experience with project planning and design.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve job failures and technical issues.
  • Assist in the identification of additional service opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to our clientele.
  • Must have strong client facing communication skills.
  • Ability to manage difficult client situations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • IBM i installation and support
  • IBM i upgrade
  • Backup and recovery
  • Availability issues and disaster recovery
  • Remote management and support
  • General network concepts and implementation of Power Systems in existing and new networks
  • HMC configuration/administration
  • IBM PowerVM including VIOS configuration, configuration of LPM, and other advanced PowerVM features are a plus.
  • Knowledge of high availability solutions (PowerHA, Mimix, FSFC, FSR, etc.) are desired.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • BA or BS degree or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates should possess a minimum of 5 years' experience in client facing environments with effective presentation skills.
  • Skills should include understanding of Virtualization environments for Power Servers.
  • Candidates should possess a strong working knowledge of IBM products, including but not limited to Power Systems, Storage, and Networking.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • Physical environmental factors of this position include those found in typical business office environment or home office environment.
  • Requires use of general office equipment and personal computer equipment.
