Summary: Under general supervision and following written and verbal instructions, a Computer Operator I sets up, operates, and monitors a wide range of moderately complex computer operations and peripheral equipment, which is used to process business, engineering, or scientific data.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Employee will be responsible to perform the following functions/duties:

  • Comply with computer operation policy, standards, and procedures
  • Assist with interpretation of program requirements, audit auxiliary peripheral units to ascertain correctness of input data, and check condition and arrangement of tapes
  • Gather data for various reports required by accounting and management or for engineering/scientific applications
  • Compile programs for programmers
  • Write minor operational programs
  • Organize computer input and output of data
  • Provide basic support to investigate and locate source of non-standard irregularities
  • Analyze and recover program operations in complex error situations
  • Assist in the maintenance and inventory control of computer equipment
  • Provide point of contact for computer users and furnish basic informal training to new account users
  • Install and terminate computer accounts, modify computer accounts, passwords, privileges and other set-ups, as directed
  • Provide basic support to investigate and troubleshoot problems in operational hardware and software and develop solutions for issues discovered

• Perform other job-related duties, as required

Tasking is in support of a federal government contract that requires U.S. citizenship. Some jobs may require a candidate to be eligible for a government security clearance, state-issued driver's license or other licenses / certifications and the inability to obtain and maintain the required clearance, license or certification may affect an employee's ability to maintain employment.

Education: Vocational/technical or military equivalent training beyond high school.

Experience: One year of job-related experience is required for this position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this Position:

  • Demonstrated basic working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Good planning/organizational skills
  • Ability to work under deadlines

Work Environment, Physical and Mental Demands: Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness are required. Travel to remote company work locations may be required.
