Pre Award Grants Officer

Position Summary: The Grant Officer reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Research and Sponsored Programs. This individual must be familiar with grant development, submission procedures and Post Award reporting, compliancy and monitoring. The major responsibilities are to assist the AVP in providing potential investigators timely and accurate pre/post-award information, and assist investigators with the preparation and submission of grants to government and other funding agencies. In addition, the Grant Officer will take a leadership role in advancing and managing electronic research administration(ERA) efforts, including grant and report submissions, virtual trainings, workshops, and other meetings. Therefore, the Grant Officer must be familiar with applicable ORSP and university policies as well as federal and other granting agency regulations and guidelines. This individual must also remain abreast of agency electronic submission and reporting processes, including NSF Fast lane/research.gov, Grants.gov, NIH Assist, era Commons, FEMAgo., HRSA electronic Handbook, and others.
The Grant Officer must also be able to work in an environment which requires teamwork and a level of confidentiality. The employee must also be able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Assist with the review and submission of proposals and applications
- Monitor and identify potential funding opportunities for faculty and staff
- Help design and conduct virtual and in-person trainings and workshops
- Assist ORSP staff with expanding awards and records management systems
- Design and assist with faculty/staff grant training and development
- Develop virtual trainings, workshops, and meetings for current and potential PIs;
- Assist in the development and maintenance of departmental e-newsletter and other publications, including annual / progress reports
- Provide assistance to Asst. Vice President as directed. Assist the PIs with Programmatic reporting and any reporting due to the agency.
- Monitor grant process and keep the University compliant.
- All other duties assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position currently has no supervisory responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual must be familiar with standard granting agency guidelines and web-based submission and reporting portals, including NSF Fast lane, era Commons, NIH Assist, grants.gov, HRSA EHB, and others. In addition, she/he must be or become knowledgeable of several applications, including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS Teams, Adobe Sign, and others. This individual should also have exceptional verbal and written communication ability.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Master s degree or Bachelor’s degree or 10 years of related experience.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to identify problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to diplomatically, but effectively provide resolution to complex issues and situations.
Work Conditions
May require hours sitting in front of a computer, walking across campus, and/or bending or stooping.
Other:
The scope of the job sometimes requires working in the evenings and on weekends.
