We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing to more than 28,000 youth every year at 100+ community and school locations. Through prevention, early intervention and treatment, we also help youth before they need higher levels of care or become homeless.

- Meet the basic needs of youth. Hunger, poverty and youth homelessness are on the rise for many youth and their families today. We help meet these basic needs for youth. What could be more vital than food and shelter? We provide safe places to live and long-term solutions through shelter, foster homes, community centers and housing.
- Create positive connection. We help youth focus on positive life changes and healthy relationships as part of providing needed resources and services. San Diego Youth Services has long provided foster homes and adoption support services for families considering adopting a youth in the foster care system.
- Help youth develop life skills. In addition to a range of safe and stable housing options, we offer support to help youth develop the independent living skills necessary to become self-sufficient and keep off the streets.
- Promote overall health and well-being. Early intervention and care for the whole child are critical. We provide a broad continuum of services to help youth overcome trauma and challenges that put them at risk, including case management, counseling, mental health treatment and educational support and resources.
SDYS has a staff of approximately 215 employees and 80 volunteers working across San Diego County and an annual budget of approximately $22 million.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION OR PROGRAM DESCRIPTION HIRING FOR
The Achievement Center is an afterschool program designed to support youth involved with our juvenile justice system and community youth that are at high risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system. High risk behaviors can include expulsion, suspension, truancy, poor academic performance and grades, and physical altercations with their peers.
The program intervenes and is designed to prevent negative behavior through learning. Youth get an opportunity to participate in psychoeducational groups and social emotional learning groups, where they learn coping skills and how to regulate their emotions.
CONTEXT OF THE POSITION
Provide group and individual mental health services to youth enrolled in the Achievement Center through unprecedented patience, flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and acceptance, as youth develop relational competencies, coping skills, social emotional learning, and life skills. Manage participant motivation, provide transportation to programming, intakes and assessments, creating Client Plan in coordination with the youth and program staff, facilitate referrals, and collaborate with community partners
Essential functions include:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate an integrated approach for youth, some with co-occurring disorders, in quality trauma informed youth programs, which adhere to and uphold the rigorous standards of San Diego Youth Services as mandated by its mission, purpose, guiding principles and standards of quality.

- Maintain clear, timely, effective, and open professional communication within the team and among community partners, especially Probation, and referral sources.
- Conduct in-depth assessment for potential mental health and/or substance abuse issues, CSE, domestic/community violence, physical/sexual/emotional abuse, and physical health needs.
- Provide individual/group/family therapy that is strengths-based and family-centered to assure youth’s successful program completion; co-occurring disorders treatment; crisis intervention, service/discharge planning; and case-management services.
- Provide and Coordinate transportation needs of youth in the program.
- Facilitate trauma informed and strength-based groups on a variety of topics.
- Create and lead recreational activities.
- With other staff, participate in the maintenance of the day-to-day cleanliness, safety, and order of the physical facility, grounds, and maintain a warm and welcoming environment.
- Provide services to youth at home, at satellite offices and in the community as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy standards of service-partner protected health information and other applicable information and material in accordance with agency and center policies, and applicable regulations and laws, including HIPAA.
- Attend required meetings, including, but not limited to supervision, staff meetings, and training.
- Demonstrate ability to work well under pressure, meet multiple and competing deadlines.
- Cooperate and collaborate with colleagues and supervisors, and positively contribute to the culture of the program and agency.
PREFERRED PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Licensed/Licensed Eligible in Marital and Family Therapy, Social Work, or Psychology.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience under the direct supervision of a licensed Clinician with high-risk adolescents, preferably with those that have been involved with the juvenile justice system.
• Bi-lingual Spanish required.
• Experience in crisis intervention, therapeutic group facilitation, documentation, curriculum maintenance/development, and case management.
• Must be a team player with the ability to work independently.
• Must possess or be willing to develop working knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment; experience working in trauma-informed and dual diagnosis preferred. Familiarity with juvenile justice and social service systems preferred.
• Must be able to work with and represent a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
• Must have reliable vehicle, relevant auto insurance, a clean driving record, valid CA driver’s license and willing to drive vehicle for job related tasks (mileage reimbursement).
• Maintain certification in CPR & First Aid. Employment is subject to required clearances which include tuberculosis test, fingerprinting, background checks, and drug testing.
• Must be registered with the Board of Behavioral Science and must be in good standing.

Salary Range: $68k-70k/Annually
