Job Title: Project Accountant 

Reports to: Controller 

Job Summary: The Project Accountant is responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of assigned projects, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and analysis. This role ensures that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported, compliance is maintained, and projects are completed within their financial parameters. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Financial Management: 

  • Develop and manage project budgets in collaboration with project managers. 

  • Monitor project expenses and revenues to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints. 

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for projects. 

  1. Budgeting and Forecasting: 

  • Assist in the creation of project budgets and forecasts. 

  • Track project financial performance against budgets and forecasts. 

  • Identify and report variances, providing insights. 

  1. Cost Control: 

  • Review and approve project-related expenses and invoices. 

  • Ensure all project costs are recorded accurately and on time. 

  • Conduct regular cost reviews and analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities. 

  1. Financial Reporting: 

  • Prepare detailed financial reports for project stakeholders, including variance analysis and financial projections. 

  • Ensure all financial reporting is compliant with relevant accounting standards and regulations. 

  • Maintain comprehensive financial records for all projects. 

  1. Compliance and Audit: 

  • Ensure all financial activities comply with internal policies, procedures, and external regulations. 

  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and explanations. 

  1. Collaboration and Communication: 

  • Work closely with project managers, team members, and other stakeholders to provide financial insights and support. 

  • Communicate financial status, risks, and issues to project teams and senior management. 

  • Facilitate financial training and support to project teams as needed. 

  1. Process Improvement: 

  • Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and systems related to project accounting. 

  • Develop and document best practices and standard operating procedures. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred  

  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA) is preferred. 

  • Proven experience as a Project Accountant or in a similar accounting role. 

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial management. 

  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). 

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Experience in the environmental and construction industry, relevant to the projects being managed. 

  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools. 

  • Knowledge of ERP systems and advanced financial reporting tools. 

  • Knowledge of Unanet AE and Viewpoint. 

Work Environment: 

  • Office-based 

  • Standard working hours, with the possibility of extended hours during critical project phases
