POSITION SUMMARY

Post Secondary Success (PSS) Coach provides individual and group support for first-generation and low-income college students attending 2-year and 4-year institutions of higher learning to support student persistence. The PSS Coach maintains contact with a core caseload of students and organizes cohort activities to encourage peer-to-peer support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Collaborate with High School program to ensure a seamless transition to college and improve student persistence and success.
  • Develop and deliver workshops and seminars for high school students, focusing on life skills and academic enhancement.
  • Connect students with campus resources, support, and enrichment activities.
  • Assist students in completing necessary enrollment paperwork for PSS services.
  • Guide students through college and financial aid application processes.
  • Support students in setting and working towards individual education and career goals.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with college administration and student services groups.
  • Advocate for students as needed, ensuring their needs are met.
  • Provide tutoring and teach study skills as required to enhance student learning.
  • Verify and maintain accurate data on student matriculation, enrollment, and retention.
  • Enter data into Salesforce system as necessary for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Prepare reports highlighting the status of core caseload as required.
  • Stay updated on post-secondary education trends and barriers to college success through ongoing research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or related field.
  • One or more years working in case management counseling, admissions and/or financial aid preferred.

The above qualifications express the minimum standards of education and/or experience for this position. Other combinations of education and experience, if evaluated as equivalent, may be taken into consideration.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Bilingual (Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of FAFSA and financial aid.
  • Knowledge of higher education and barriers to success for first-generation and low-income college bound students.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of college and community groups.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintains credibility through sincerity, honesty, and discretion.

  • Regular day and occasional overnight travel (50%), local, statewide, and out of state.
  • Current, valid driver’s license.
