Job DescriptionJob Description

 

A facilities manager is responsible for the upkeep of the Burpee Museum buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure they are safe and functional. Their duties include: 

 

  1. Building maintenance: Ensuring the building and basic facilities are well-maintained

    1. Regularly inspects buildings and grounds to establish repair and maintenance schedules.

      1. Inspection and maintenance/cleaning of bathrooms, and exhibit areas

      2. Inspection and maintenance of behind scenes areas including but not limited to HVAC, offices, etc.

      3. Inspection and maintenance of Barnes Mansion 

      4. Inspection and exterior planning for building grounds in conjunction with the administrative team.

    2. Works with the administrative team to develop and implement short and long-term preventive maintenance plans for the building, grounds, fire and emergency equipment; leads implementation of these plans.

    3. Performs or directs preventive or repair work to the building and grounds including scheduling yearly inspections for boiler, backflow, elevators, sprinklers etc.

    4. Monitors maintenance contracts for regulatory efficiency and cost effectiveness; supervises vendor work.

    5. Supervises facilities staff; ensures that daily cleaning and maintenance tasks are complete.

    6. Assists in training staff and volunteers.

    7. Assists in preparing for emergencies, identifying and mitigating hazards, and implementing security protocols. 

    8. Coordinates Emergency repairs

    9. Schedules repairs in a timely manner to resolve crises and minimize damage and inconvenience. 

    10. Coordinates with the Administration team to implement and upkeep safety and security plan including maintaining cameras, contacting alarm service vendors, etc.

 

  1. Museum Events

    1. Works with the Administrative team (Director of Education, VP, and Executive Director) for facilities scheduling; oversees set up and tear down of museum programs and events.

    2. Organizes and maintains department resources and materials; requests supplies when necessary.

    3. Attends museum programs and events and assists other departments when assigned.

  2. Exhibits

    1. Monitors exhibits for function and implements plans for necessary repairs

    2. Assists in the execution and development of new exhibitions in both the building and take down phases

 

GENERAL DUTIES OF ALL POSITIONS:

 

  1. Supports the mission of the museum association to inspire all people to engage in a lifetime of discovery and learning about the natural world, through preservation and interpretation.

  2. Interfaces with diverse audiences and represents the museum association in a professional, positive and friendly manner.

  3. Attends regular staff meetings.

  4. Attends professional meetings, conferences, and seminars when appropriate.

  5. Makes and maintains contacts with professional colleagues.

  6. Other duties as requested by the Director of Operations or the Executive Director.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  1. Works in a clean, heated and cooled, well-lit, well-ventilated environment.

  2. Works with office equipment, hand tools, and cleaning supplies.

  3. Adhere to parent program requirements for max weight and no ladder policy
