It is an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations, UNESCO and the OSCE, the Organization of American States, the Latin American Parliament, and the Council of Europe. The SWC is headquartered in Los Angeles with offices in New York, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, Paris, Jerusalem and Buenos Aires. The Museum of Tolerance Los Angeles, founded in 1993, is the educational arm of the SWC. Moriah Films is the Center’s two-time Academy Award®-winning film division and the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem is scheduled to open in 2025.
About the role:
We are looking for an Educator who can facilitate Mobile Museums of Tolerance (MMOT) programs on topics of Combatting Hate, antisemitism, Holocaust, Civil Rights, digital media literacy, and other human rights issues (view: Mobile Museums of Tolerance). You will be conducting workshops on board the MMOT and running educational workshops at schools for students and in communities for a variety of stakeholders. We will rely on you to find ways to continuously improve the educational experience that we provide and to maintain our organization’s positive image.
About you:
You are passionate about human rights injustices, combatting hate, community and educational engagement, diversity, inclusion, and Holocaust education. You are an engaging educator with experience in teaching, facilitating, and working with youth aged 10-18. You can use judgment and make sound decisions in a public arena, including the ability to respond appropriately to questions about sensitive educational material on the above-mentioned topics.
This position will report to the Program Manager, Mobile Museums of Tolerance NY. This position requires traveling alongside the MMOT across the state of New York. As such, a majority portion of the time in this position requires travel.
Responsibilities
- Traveling with the Mobile Museum of Tolerance bus to different schools and diverse venues.
- Facilitating open houses at libraries and other community sites/interacting with visitors of all ages.
- Assisting in the Field Education team in creating lesson plans and teachers guides.
- Informing the NY Manager if there are any issues with the MMOT itself or problems with a visit.
Experience and Skills:
- Reside in New York.
- Have 3-5 years of teaching experience.
- Have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study.
- Possess a self-starting attitude, be ready to seize opportunities and make an impact without specific instruction.
- Timely problem-solving skills to tackle emergencies, unintended delays, and/or changes in the schedule.
