LOCATION: La Crosse, WI


JOB SUMMARY:


Provide HR support to the functional areas of the business. Deliver value-added service and drive HR initiatives to management and employees through the development of strong partnerships. The HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: benefits, payroll, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment and employment law compliance.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Thoroughly understand and adhere to the Human Resources departmental goals, objectives, and strategy.

  • Assists with recruiting and selection; manages position requisition and recruitment documents within the recruiting management system, coordinates and participates in interviews and communicates with hiring managers and candidates.

  • Manages new hire onboarding from coordinating pre-employment screening, providing new hire materials and conducting new hire orientation and follow-up.

  • Provides assistance and guidance to managers with development, coaching and disciplinary process as needed.

  • Facilitates a positive work environment through existing employee programs as well as implementation of new programs and ideas to improve employee engagement.

  • Responsible for leaves management including FMLA, STD, ADA and worker’s compensation.

  • Partners with Safety Manager to maintain safety documentation for incidents and investigations; keeps management informed of follow-up needed.

  • May assist in responding to unemployment claims.

  • Ensures compliance of all federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.

  • Develops relationships with department heads, committing time to stay connected to business processes and the employees.

  • researches, develops and administers training programs across various departments and through various mediums.

  • Responsible for the administration of employee files, I-9, and confidential files.

  • Act as a backup for administering payroll.

  • Respond to employee requests and questions; accountable for issue resolution and general customer satisfaction.

  • Respond to employment verification, and miscellaneous correspondence.

  • Manage or participate in multiple projects concurrently.

  • Maintain mailroom and office supplies.

  • Other projects or duties as assigned.

  • Some traveling required between Viola and La Crosse.


REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field.

  • 2+ years of related experience including staffing, employee relations, compliance and performance management.

  • Positive, professional demeanor; excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with different personality types and work in a team environment.

  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to balance conflicting points of view, function effectively under pressure and demonstrate discretion and integrity.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, emphasizing attention to detail.

  • Excellent follow-up skills with the ability to execute on initiatives and follow-through to completion.

  • Ability to adapt to a fluid business environment.

  • Highly organized, detail oriented and capable of multitasking.

  • Strong work ethic.

  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Proficient with HRIS and related systems.



PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with ADP is a plus.
