MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to return the city's blighted and vacant properties to productive use. We utilize a variety of Sales programs to make homeownership and land purchases accessible to Detroiters. Plus, we take our commitment to revitalization one step further with our Compliance and Nuisance Abatement programs, requiring renovation and occupancy to improve neighborhoods, eliminate blight, and combat real estate speculation. The Detroit Land Bank Authority works directly with individual buyers, as well as Community Partner organizations and developers for projects big and small.

The Detroit Land Bank Authority (DLBA) was recently tasked with completing a series of city-wide surveys of vacant and blighted properties over the next 18 months. This is a historic effort to understand the extent of blight across Detroit and strategize methods to remediate that blight with partners across the city. The Project Liaison II is responsible for supporting the assessment and triaging of vacant and blighted properties determined by the survey. The Project Liaison will be charged with reviewing property data, running quality checks on the survey information provided, and triaging properties to appropriate programs for blight remediation. The Project Liaison will perform a variety of administrative support assignments related to departmental projects and activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate privately owned, vacant and blighted properties for various blight remediation pathways including demolition, the Nuisance Abatement Program, and other City programs.
  • Determine the general structural integrity, condition, and occupancy status of properties.
  • Review property inspection data received from the DLBA’s Neighborhood Survey field team.
  • Perform quality checks of survey information provided by the Neighborhood Survey field team.
  • Report on survey finding inconsistencies to Neighborhood Survey Manager.
  • Make property pipeline recommendations and triage properties.
  • Determine additional data needed to make assessments.
  • Track and prepare regular reports pertaining to property assessments and project statuses.
  • Assist the Manager with special projects as needed.
  • Perform additional related duties as directed by the Neighborhood Survey Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, political science, history, community development, real estate, Geography, or a related field.
  • Experience with construction, residential rehab, property maintenance, property inspections, or real estate a plus.
  • Experience with Salesforce preferred.
  • Some experience in data collection and practice preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Detroit neighborhoods and housing markets, preferred.
  • Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and work under tight deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Detroit Land Bank Authority
