POSITION TITLE: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

REPORTS TO: Governing Board of Directors

DIRECT REPORTS: Medical Director, CCBHC Director, Director of Operations, Director of Community Programs, Director of Finance

FLSA STATUS: Exempt; regular full-time; employment-at-will position.

SCHEDULE: The work schedule will generally conform to that of a full-time Monday-Friday 40-hour-per-week schedule to be performed within the Center’s hours of operation.

PURPOSE:

The CEO will hold a pivotal role in strategic leadership, setting the overall direction and vision of Kanza Mental Health & Guidance Center, Inc., driving its mission, achieving its goals, and ensuring organizational effectiveness. The CEO will the Center towards its CCBHC objectives and agency goals by making crucial decisions, formulating innovative strategies for growth and business development, developing strategic partnerships and infrastructure, and maintaining sound fiscal health. The CEO will drive the development of a robust and sustainable infrastructure and leadership team in effectively addressing the recent rapid growth of the Center.

The CEO will collaborate with the leadership team and the board to develop a shared vision in the planning, development, and implementation of quality programs and services tailored to meet the specific needs of the community within Brown, Doniphan, Nemaha and Jackson counties. The CEO will ensure sustainable financial performance, technology advancement, regulatory compliance, data-driven programs, business development, risk mitigation, talent management, and staff leadership. Together, the CEO and leadership team will create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace where every employee feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute their best work.

The CEO position is a unique and transformative leadership opportunity to guide a large, complex behavioral healthcare organization into the future of Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics, partnership collaborations, and new opportunities. This includes meeting expanding demand for behavioral healthcare services and overseeing services and system integration with physical healthcare all while managing expectations for quality, compliance, and public accountability.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves on the governing board and is responsible for developing and implementing the clinic's mission and strategic plan. Inform the board about current trends, problems and medical activities to facilitate policy making. Participates and coordinates the selection and training of new board members.
  • Recommends, develops, implements and updates strategic long-and short-range plans to support the clinic's philosophy and goals. Leads in developing, planning and implementing the Center’s business plans in accordance with the strategic plan.
  • Actively supervises the business and financial affairs of the clinic and fiscal and grant management including accounting, budgeting, internal controls and timely reporting.
  • Enhances operational effectiveness, emphasizing cost containment without jeopardizing important innovation or quality of care.
  • Continually focuses on developing an employment culture that embraces high quality care and employee satisfaction; Delegates authority and responsibility to management team members; Continually develops and improves management techniques and practices.
  • Encourages Center integration within the community through effective communication; Represents the Center in its relationships with other health organizations, government agencies, and third-party payers.
  • Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional development to keep current in the latest health care trends and developments.
  • Provide high-level oversight of all operational activities, ensuring that the Center's services, including those mandated under the CCBHC model, meet the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and compliance with federal and state regulations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited school in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Public Administration, or a related field, with a minimum of five years of administrative experience. Preference for candidates with experience in a Community Mental Health Center or a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic. A master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field with BSRB licensure is also considered with relevant experience.
  2. Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary team, apply administrative principles, and manage complex organizational dynamics, particularly within a behavioral and/or addictions framework.
  3. Effective verbal, written and presentation skills; Ability to articulate the Center’s mission and goals to diverse audiences.
  4. Demonstrated ability to execute organizational strategy, including: The ability to define goals and objectives, define performance objectives and experience in driving strategic results.
  5. A history of a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  6. A proven track record of collaboration with staff, board of directors, donors, and community stakeholders, including community leaders, elected officials, and state and federal agencies.
  7. Ability to think strategically, manage change, and make sound decisions in a complex and evolving behavioral health environment.
  8. A keen intellect, capable of advanced analytical and critical thinking, able to solve problems, and drive complex decision-making.
  9. A history of building relationships with community leaders and stakeholders that foster respect and financial support and enthusiasm towards the Center.

SALARY RANGE FOR THIS POSITION: Salary commensurate with experience and Kanza MHGC salary structure.
