PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • Makes routine rounds to assigned units performing comprehensive physical examinations and preventive health measures within prescribed guidelines and instructions of Medical Director.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests (i.e. Laboratory, X-ray, EKG, etc.) to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
  • Orders, reviews and provides resident/patient instruction regarding diet, activities, medication, diagnosis and prognosis.
  • Monitors, initiates and manipulates medications within the framework of standing protocols.
  • Integrates information collected in health history, physical exam and diagnostic studies into defined problem areas; records physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis, based on resident/client condition.
  • Evaluates and prioritizes resident/client care problems and takes appropriate medical action.
  • Provides nursing services on the units as needed, including answering call bells and assisting residents with ADL’s.
  • Understands own professional limits and when to refer resident/client to Medical Director or other staff Physicians for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment.
  • Discusses case with Medical Director and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.
  • Presents medical review reports in the prescribed time frames as required by State and Federal regulations.
  • Participates in Resident Care Assessment Team and other committees as deemed necessary by the Medical Director.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with the Vice President of Nursing and participates in Nursing Services Programs whenever appropriate.
  • Participates in teaching PA, DO, NP students and works in conjunction with Geriatric fellows.
  • Professional growth and development through continued research, training and education activities.
  • Interprets, prepares and presents reports and correspondence to staff, resident/client, visitors and community.
  • Maintains the lines of communication between department personnel, nursing services, physicians and families.
  • Assume on-call responsibilities as assigned by the Medical Director.
  • As the prescribers of antibiotics, it is vital that clinicians are fully engaged in and supportive of efforts to improve antibiotic use. Nurse Practitioners will review antibiotic use data and ensure best practices are being followed.

QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)
Masters in Advanced Practical Nursing from accredited university. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing as R.N. Minimum two years experience working as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Advanced Registered FL Geriatric Nurse Practitioner
  • Current, valid FL Drivers License
  • FL. Medicare Number
  • Basic Life Support Certification
