Palo Alto, United States Future Energy Ventures Full time

We are looking for a Senior Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Manager (all genders) for our portfolio company Piclo.

About Piclo

The climate crisis means that now, more than ever, we need to act. Here at Piclo, we believe we are not powerless against climate change and are focused on enabling the transition to a decarbonized future. Our team is on a mission to make our energy systems smart, flexible and sustainable.

We’re hiring a Senior DER Manager to work alongside our friendly team of software engineers, product managers, designers and more that are at the forefront of transforming the energy sector.

The US market is strategically very important for our company. In less than a year, Piclo has made a splash in expanding internationally and within North America. We have grown from one utility customer in New York State - where we launched our local grid flexibility marketplace with National Grid in December 2022 - to running New England’s first grid flexibility marketplace with Eversource and Avangrid across Connecticut. Piclo needs additional staff to support this new growth in our DER-enabled (Distributed Energy Resource) grid flexibility marketplace as we look to expand into new markets. This is a key period for us as we ramp up our growth and develop momentum among key potential customers.

Piclo is a rapidly growing team, currently over 50 people, with a headquarters office in London. Piclo has backing from a range of investors including Clean Growth Fund, Future Energy Ventures, EDP Ventures and Toshiba. Our company's values are: be human, collaborate, keep things simple, be adaptable, be open & push boundaries.

Tasks

This role sits within our Commercial Team and would be responsible for (but not limited to) the following:

Management of DER aggregator and developer ecosystem

  • Understand DER business models, customers, geography, and asset types
  • Build regional DER recruitment plan in collaboration with Senior Commercial Manager and marketing team
  • Develop lead generation campaigns and track progress
  • Attend industry events, meet stakeholders in person, and develop relationships
  • Converting DER players from initial interest to account registration and participation
  • Develop regular, targeted, and tailored communications
  • Lead demos and training sessions on the platform with new DERs
  • Ensure our dedicated Customer Support team solves day-to-day issues experienced by DERs on the platform
  • Shepherd DERs through market participation steps
  • Work with product team to flag product issues and recommend improvements to user experience

Supporting utility account success

  • Support regional utility account management plans, including coordination of market planning and support
  • Drive holistic DER engagement in all regional markets, ensuring it is in line with expectations and agreed service levels
  • Set deadlines and expectations for successful market operations based on DER feedback and clients’ operational and/or regulatory priorities
  • Track, document, and report on progress, DER feedback, challenges, and updates internally to improve delivery, and to utility customers for visibility
  • Step up as needed to support the account management teams with account coverage
  • Help build a set of region-specific polished processes and tactics for DER market liquidity
Requirements

Our ideal candidate meets many - but not necessarily all - of the below criteria:

  • 5 years of experience in a customer-facing role (e.g., sales / BD, account management, project management, consulting), with at least 2 years in the DER, renewable project development, and/or energy sector
  • Demonstrated track record of external stakeholder engagement and management (e.g., DER aggregators, owners, and operators; related products)
  • Excellent communication skills with experience developing concise presentations and campaigns
  • You have an entrepreneurial attitude with a demonstrated ability to work self-sufficiently, flexibly and resourcefully. You will help clear the path for everyone to do their best work.
  • You are an incredibly motivated and organized person. You are an excellent communicator, enjoy the process of prioritizing work and setting timelines while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • You are based in the Northeast US and willing to travel periodically for customer meetings or business development opportunities, mostly across the US
  • You are able to travel to London periodically for team building
Benefits

Joining Piclo means you’ll be part of a high-performing, passionate team that is right at the heart of accelerating the energy transition. In addition, we are pleased to offer the following:

  • Competitive compensation package
  • 25 days holiday - excluding federal holidays
  • 40-hour week - with flexible working hours
  • Remote working - opportunities to travel to meet the US team, and to London, to meet the wider company
  • A super welcoming, supportive, collaborative and transparent culture where the priority is to help shape your role to find the best balance between what we need as a business and your career progression plans.

Inclusivity

Our team welcomes everyone to work together on our mission. We don’t believe that anyone should be discriminated against for any reason, be that age, nationality, gender, race, sexual preferences, religious beliefs, political leanings or disabilities. We welcome diversity among our colleagues and see it as important that everyone is supported and comfortable working with us.

Studies have shown that some groups of people, like women, are less likely to apply to a role unless they meet 100% of the job requirements. Whoever you are, if you like one of our jobs, we encourage you to apply as you might just be the candidate we hire.

Interview Process

We generally conduct interviews in three stages, lasting approximately 2-4 weeks.

  1. Introductory call: we’ll invite you for a short video call to discuss your experience and what you’re looking for in your next role.

  2. Written Challenge: If successful, applicants will be invited to complete a challenge relevant to the skills required in your role

  3. Final interview & team collaboration session: if successful, applicants will then be invited to a final stage consisting of:

  4. In-depth interview to understand your experiences

  5. Team collaboration session
