TerraSafe Materials is seeking a Senior Process Engineer to join our mission in developing innovative biomaterials for sustainable packaging solutions. As early-stage start-ups within Big Idea Ventures’ Generation Food Rural Partners Fund, we are dedicated to creating products that reduce the world's reliance on environmentally harmful single-use plastics.

We are looking for creative self-starters who excel in both independent and collaborative environments. Our ultimate goal is to drive the growth of our companies while significantly reducing single-use plastic waste.

This technical position requires a background in lab work and process technology. We are open to candidates with varying levels of experience who demonstrate the right skills and potential. The role is full-time and based at our research and development laboratory in Raleigh, North Carolina.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a science or engineering discipline or equivalent level of proven technical experience.
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently/autonomously and as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed directions in a manufacturing GMP environment 
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing/process development environment.
  • Experience leading the creation or improvement of systems and processes for a laboratory and manufacturing facility.
  • Experience manufacturing in a research and development environment, biomaterial synthesis or fabrication is a bonus



Key Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for the operational readiness of lab equipment and its support processes, including for extrusions, podding, coating dispersers and injection molding.
  • Ensure that quality specifications are met and optimize ongoing processes on machines.
  • Demonstrated ability to start-up, operate and shut down process related equipment. Must be able to work independently on new processes.
  • Co-lead the implementation of new processes and equipment.
  • Lead troubleshooting activities of injection molding machines and its support processes.
  • Independently carry out minor repairs and maintenance on the molding machines and peripherals.
  • Work with equipment and material vendors to resolve machine and equipment issues.
  • Develop and implement process improvements and technological upgrades.
  • Identify and implement cost optimization and reduction initiatives.
  • Maintain high quality standards through on-the-floor interaction with employees to ensure quality and accuracy in each step of the production process.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to process technicians and other team members.
  • Ensure that all business activities conform to local laws and regulations and are following company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations regarding environmental protection, fire prevention as well as occupational health and safety.
