Classification: Full-Time Permanent Position (40hrs /week) 100% Onsite 


Hourly Rate: $21.00 per hour 


Start Date: Immediately / No Relocation Assistant


Hours: Monday through Thursday from 11:30am to 7pm and Fridays from 12pm to 7pm. Hours subject to change and occasional Saturday hours may be necessary. 


Youth Center Hours: 4pm to 7pm (availability required) 


Reports to: Youth and Senior Services Manager 


About Casa Familiar: Casa Familiar is a community-based organization that provides over 40 bilingual programs and services in six different sites in the San Ysidro community. Programs range from Civic Engagement to Social services, Arts & Culture to Education.

Position Overview: Youth Center Coordinator 


Role Summary: The Youth Center Coordinator is a pivotal provider of Casa Familiar’s services, catering to the developmental needs of young individuals aged 6 to 18. This role is instrumental in fostering a nurturing and courageous space for youth by designing and implementing programs that mirror their evolving requirements. The coordinator acts as a vital link, fostering connections and active participation among the community, Casa Familiar, and integral partners including educational institutions, non-profit allies, libraries, and medical facilities. 


Key Responsibilities: The core responsibilities outlined below are fundamental to the Youth Center Coordinator role but are not exhaustive. The incumbent may be required to undertake additional duties, which could arise from various programmatic needs or departmental intersections, as necessary. 

 


Engagement and Assessment: 

  • Spearhead an annual survey to gauge the needs and aspirations of residents and youth, ensuring programs are aligned with their interests. 
  • Craft a comprehensive monthly schedule of daily activities tailored to the youth’s preferences, including a special 

event each month that encourages family participation. 


Program Development and Facilitation: 

  •  Design, orchestrate, and conduct a variety of youth-centric programs, such as educational excursions, scholarly seminars, leadership development sessions, and hands-on projects, all aimed at nurturing their potential and guiding them towards scholastic excellence and higher education prospects. 
  • Inspire and guide young individuals to explore and commit to higher education pathways. 


Educational and Career Support: 

  • Provide pivotal support to students navigating the pivotal shift from secondary education to their chosen academic and professional trajectories, assisting with college admissions, scholarship applications, and crafting impactful resumes. 


Volunteer Coordination and Community Outreach: 

  • Oversee the enlistment and supervision of high school volunteers, integrating them into the Youth Center’s 

vibrant ecosystem. 

  • Execute outreach and engagement strategies to attract and retain participants for the Youth Center’s initiatives. 
  • Build and nurture productive relationships with school personnel to streamline a referral system that supports youth engagement. 


Reporting and Collaboration: 

  • Diligently compile and submit monthly reports utilizing designated client management software, attendance records, and analytical tools. 
  • Actively partake in all internal team meetings and contribute to Casa Familiar’s broader community events, 

embodying the spirit of collective growth and development. 


Collaboration and Interaction: The Youth Center Coordinator will engage with a diverse group of young participants, ranging from 6 to 18 years old, as well as collaborate with the Youth Center Coordinator(s) at various locations, Youth and Senior Services Manager, Program Director, and Social Work Intern(s). This role also entails occasional collaborative efforts with multiple Property Managers.

  • Open to engaging with a broad age range, from children aged 6-12 to youth aged 13-24. 
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, demonstrating technological adeptness. 
  •  Prioritizes tasks effectively, with a knack for multi-tasking and problem-solving in dynamic settings. 
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are highly regarded, adding value to communication and outreach efforts. 


Educational Background and Professional Experience: 

  • Preferred Academic Qualifications: 
  • An Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Youth Development or a closely related discipline, such as Child Development, Education, Social Work, Counseling, or Sociology. 
  • A minimum of one year of experience in roles involving direct interaction with youth and/or children. 


Mandatory Qualifications and Compliance Requirements: 

  • Health and Safety: 
  • Submission of a vaccination card demonstrating complete immunization status. 
  • Security and Trust: 
  • Consent to and pass a comprehensive federal background check, which is provided at no expense to the candidate. 
  • Transportation: 
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license, or a commitment to obtain one within a reasonable 

timeframe. 

  • Community Engagement: 
  • A requirement for all Casa Familiar staff to actively participate in at least one community event committee annually. 

Professional Development and Training: 

  • Onboarding and Skill Enhancement: 
  • Training in the use of the client management software system (Salesforce). 
  • Certification in First Aid to ensure readiness for any medical emergencies. 
  • Education in Suicide Prevention to provide critical support in urgent situations. 
  • Instruction in Trauma-Informed Care to approach service provision with sensitivity and understanding. 
  • Awareness sessions on Domestic Violence to recognize and respond to signs of abuse. 
  • Training on Sexual Harassment to maintain a safe and respectful work environment. 
  • Preparation for Emergency Procedures to effectively manage unforeseen crises.
