The Position Description:
SUMMARY
Responsible for the leadership and management of Carpenter's Place in accordance with the intents and purposes of the articles of incorporation, by-laws, organizational mission, and policies established by the governing board of directors. Able to work with the board to create and articulate a compelling long-term vision and secure the support and resources of individuals, organizations, alliances, and the community to achieve agency objectives.Can build collaboration between entities that may have similar, competing, or non-intersecting interest. Motivated by faith in action, is compassionate, respectful, non-judgmental and understanding of the hardships of the homeless population and is committed “to provide the tools necessary for rebuilding the lives of homeless adults.”
Essential DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
Board of Directors
·Report to the board of directors and keep them apprised of current ventures, new opportunities, threats, and significant developments. Draw on the counsel and expertise of the Board, as necessary
·Work with the Board of Directors to develop strategic plans. Reassess plans on a regular basis, adjust as necessary and ensure clarity of objectives with the board of directors and management staff
·Prepare and distribute the materials and reports necessary for the board and committees to conduct its business
·Attend board committee meetings to assist in the completion of their work
·Direct and participate in the development and management of the annual budget
Financial and Human Resources
·Secure successfully human and financial resources to meet the current and future needs of the organization, which is made up of an extensive volunteer program and a comprehensive fundraising program from individuals, churches and community groups, grant writing and in—kind contributions
·Identify, cultivate, and engage in participation individuals with capacity to give major gifts; develop strategies and solicit major gifts from these prospects
·Maintain balance between financial and human service objectives
·Work collaboratively with Staff Management for HR consulting
Staff
·Employ dedicated individuals capable of fulfilling job requirements in accordance with the agency mission
·Create and implement staff retention plan
·Create job descriptions and update them on a regular basis
·Evaluate the purpose and relevancy of each position when an opening occurs
·Supervise, support, manage and provide on-going training for staff
Fund Development
·Oversight of all fund development activities
·Assist in utilizing networks and connections to open doors
·Explore opportunities for grant awards, private funding
Operations/Policies and Procedures
·Develop agency policies and procedures and monitor their compliance
·Put in place and monitor the efficiencies and effectiveness of financial and operational controls
·Ensure that the agency meets or exceeds all government regulations, legal requirements and grant obligations
·Make sure grant-funded programs are in compliance with grant contract guidelines and are operating within budget
·Begin work on building a strategic plan to support the mission/vision and sustainability of the organization
Community Involvement
·Develop and maintain partnerships with other not-for-profit agencies, churches, for-profit businesses, and interested individuals to create innovative programs and alliances to advance the agency mission
·Build community awareness of the agency, its mission, and the homeless population
·Serve as an advocate for Carpenter’s Place in the community and to funding sources
·Advocate for positive public policies that address the issues of homelessness in our community and beyond
·Participate in community task forces, networking groups, and committees that relate to the agency mission
Accept other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS POSITION
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is responsible for all staff’s performance; directly supervises the Director of Guest Services, Director of Family Services, Director of Community Engagement, Director of Operations, and the Financial Accounting Manager. Ability to provide clear direction; delegate and empower others to achieve results; foster an environment where teamwork and personal development are complimentary; collaborate and be open to alternate points of view.

•Education and/or Experience
MSW or Master’s in a related field preferred; or Bachelor’s degree in social work or related human services; five years of administrative experience with a successful not-for-profit organization and managing a staff including a history of staff development and team achievement; history of community or social service work. Exhibits a solid understanding and command of the financial and operational environment of a not-for-profit organization. Fundraising experience preferred
