The Salvation Army is seeking an experienced Director of Major Gifts (Divisional Resource Development Director) in Jackson, MS to lead, manage, cultivate, solicit, and steward the major gifts program in the Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi Division.

About this opportunity:

This Divisional Resource Development Director position will lead, train and mentor a team of professionals to raise funds to enable the mission of The Salvation Army in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.


Key Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will develop and nurture current and prospective donors, including individuals, foundations, government agencies, and corporations in an assigned geographic region of the Division.
  • Respond to inquiries and communicate with donors, advisory organization members, Salvation Army employees and leaders.
  • The position has direct oversight for a team of professionals and will be responsible for training, mentoring and accountability of its members.
  • There is required day and overnight travel within the three-state region and covering these areas (Jackson, Vicksburg, Monroe, and Shreveport).
  • This position will be based in Jackson, MS.


You are an ideal match for the role if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (preferably in a related field of study) and five years’ experience performing progressively responsible fundraising work in a charitable organization with demonstrated successful fundraising and donor relations, and three years’ supervisory work in a major gifts environment.Experience in leading a team of fund-raising professionals.
  • Proven history of establishing and maintaining strong long-term donor relationships.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Track record of achieving goals.
  • Prior experience with a donor management system.
  • Managing own travel based on donor visits.
