Description of Position: Develops and implements the Cybersecurity Risk Management Framework processes supporting the J6, Digital Superiority Directorate’s, mission needs while ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.


Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for improving the cybersecurity posture of Space Systems while articulating mission risks to management personnel and developing technical recommendations for mitigating identified cybersecurity risks.
  • Serve as a cybersecurity technical expert in the domains of governance, risk, and compliance of information technology systems.
  • Review and analyze technical findings pertaining in complex mission system environments and determines the impact on the system by the addition of evolving, new technologies.
  • Develop new methods and techniques for risk management to ensure appropriate actions are taken to correct and/or mitigate documented issues.
  • Serve as a technical expert and lead for drafting policy, guidance, and technical requirements for cybersecurity risk assessments while researching and interpreting leading Department of Defense guidance for information technology.
  • Participate in and lead projects/initiatives while identifying and documenting project milestones, goals, risks, and mitigations to risks that would prohibit project accomplishment.
  • Represents United States Space Command J6C, Cyberspace Assurance Division, to all entities within Space Command and the Department of Defense articulating Division priorities to stakeholders, negotiating & resolving applicable issues, and reporting on progress to leadership personnel.


Key Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of system architectures and related concepts, principles, and practices sufficient enough to conduct cybersecurity risk assessment, and develop/brief recommendations to improve the cybersecurity posture of the system.
  • Knowledge of IT security concepts, principles, and practices sufficient enough to engineer and develop solutions to cybersecurity issues and brief recommended solutions to management personnel.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principals (relevant to confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and non-repudiation), current DoD computer network defense frameworks, and risk management processes.
  • Skill in developing plans and techniques to improve the overall cybersecurity program and establishing problem solving techniques to enhance current processes.
  • Skill designing, conducting, and coordinating comprehensive cybersecurity risk assessments and briefing assessment results to management personnel.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and develop sound solutions coupled with action plans to ensure program and mission accomplishment.
  • Ability to effectively communication, both orally and in writing coupled with ability to present information clearly, with tact and technical accuracy.


Qualification Requirements:

  • Experience at the next lower broadband/grade level (or equivalent) in performing cybersecurity governance, risk, and compliance tasks needed to obtain a systems authority to operate. Identifying and documenting risks to systems, crafting risk mitigation strategies, and briefing these strategies to management personnel. Leading & participating in projects and experience in documenting project milestones and determining project risks & risk mitigation strategies. Communicating with management personnel on identified cybersecurity risks and briefings senior leaders on risk mitigation strategies. Researching and articulating Department of Defense information technology regulations as documents pertain to cybersecurity risk and cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Education Requirements: N/A.
  • Incumbent is required to have minimum certification and education required to meet standards outlined in DoD 8140.03, Cyberspace Workforce Qualification and Management Program for the applicable cyber codes: 612 – Security Control Assessor, 802 – IT Project Manager, and 805 – IT Program Auditor. Failure to comply will result in removal from this position.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance
  • Must be able to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise

  • Occasional travel away from the regular duty location may be required.
  • May be required to work irregular duty hours including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
