Job description

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles within the Department for Transport as Head of Private and Leaseholder Infrastructure Policy.

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) is a joint Department for Transport/Department for Energy Security and Net Zero Unit, working to support the transition to zero emission vehicles. This includes charting a long-term path to a fully zero emission road transport fleet and ensuring the UK makes the most of the economic opportunity this offers.

OZEV leads a portfolio of policies, regulations and programmes to deliver this goal and position the UK at the global forefront of the zero-emission vehicle transition (cars, vans and HGVs).

The charge point market is crucial to the zero-emission vehicle transition and everyone in the UK should be able to charge at accessible, safe and fairly-priced infrastructure.

The role will lead the creation and delivery of the policy and regulatory framework to support this transition, by removing barriers to the private and leasehold charge point market.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Lead and manage a team of three staff membersDeveloping and delivering high quality policy and actions to remove barriers to the private and leasehold charging marketBuild and maintain strong relationships across Government to understand emerging issues and to push for changes.Develop an expert understanding of the market area and briefing senior staff and ministers on proposed policy solutions

About you:

We are looking for a proactive and creative individual that can quickly get up to speed with the private and leasehold charge point market.

You should be able to work independently and flexibly at pace to short deadlines, managing competing deadlines and changing priorities at short notice.You need to have excellent communication skills enabling you to influence senior stakeholders and industry leaders to deliver complex and technical information clearly and concisely.Outstanding leadership skills with the ability to inspire, empower and motivate the best staff; build genuinely diverse and inclusive teams; and grow capability and resilience to deliver outcomes even when working under scrutiny or at a high pace.Excellent decision making with the ability to see the strategic connections between issues and recommend the right decisions in a political environment.Experience delivering a policy or project using project management techniques.

Additional Information:

A minimum 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.�

There will be regular travel required to visit stakeholders; other DfT offices and attend meetings and visits around the UK.
