PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening..

Position Summary: 

A librarian committed to making a difference in our students’ academic lives. Demonstrates effective engagement with students, an understanding of students’ learning preferences, excellence in instruction librarianship, and collegiality among the faculty. Brenau University librarians hold faculty rank; this 12-month non-tenured position will be an assistant/associate professor depending on experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Flexibility and initiative required to work in a dynamic small library with a strong student-centric service orientation
MLIS from an ALA accredited institution
Experience with creative design and delivery of course-integrated instruction
Experience in using information delivery technologies such as Springshare or Canvas
Reliable team player able to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and library team members
Initiative in promoting the Library’s instruction program
Commitment to professional development and university service
Excellent communication and presentation skills, written and oral
Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction: 

Responsibilities include teaching in multiple locations/modalities including in Gainesville and online
Deliver customized, course-specific instruction ranging in complexity from one-shots to three credit courses
Create new content for the LibGuides, tutorials, etc.
Provide reference support to the Brenau community
Participate in library assessment and accreditation activities
Collaborate on marketing and outreach initiatives
Serve the university community
Other projects and duties as assigned

Environmental and Working Conditions/ Physical Demands and Aptitudes:

Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Hours:

37.5 hours per week. Availability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, which will include evenings and/or occasional weekends. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements:

Some travel may be required.

Home Campus Designation:

This position is an on-ground position in Gainesville, GA.
