Job Description

The Instructional Designer (ID) at the Center for Academic Technologies plays a crucial role in advancing academic excellence in online, hybrid, and classroom teaching by supporting faculty through group instruction and individualized consultation. The ID contributes to the creation and implementation of professional development groups in both web-based and in-person formats while promoting the effective integration of technology into all instructional modes. Additionally, the ID collaborates with faculty to develop instructional materials and curate resources that ensure an enriched learning experience.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Collaborates and consults with faculty content experts to create and prepare instructional materials for students in online, hybrid, and hyflex instruction or laboratory settings.
  • Assists faculty with the selection of instructional strategies and the articulation of measurable course and lesson learning outcomes. 
  • Consults with faculty on the application of innovative technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. 
  • Researches relevant trends and best practices for teaching and learning.
  • Analyzes and evaluates new instructional tools and technologies and recommends improvements for current and future course design and delivery.
  • Reviews courses during the design, development, and delivery phases to ensure pedagogical and instructional design practices. 
  • Incorporates innovative methods of content delivery into the online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses using appropriate technologies.
  • Analyzes instructional issues and provides and implements recommendations for potential solutions. 
  • Serves on course review teams.
  • Works with the Assistant Vice President of Academic Technologies to develop a robust, ongoing program of faculty professional development and new faculty orientation. 
  • Designs and maintains Canvas sites and routinely ensures online educational resources are accessible, updated, and functional. 
  • Manages special projects as assigned. 
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Reports to: Assistant Vice President, Academic Technologies

 

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, or curriculum or a bachelor’s degree with at least twelve (12) credit hours in instructional design with two (2) years of experience in instructional or curriculum design using Learning Management Systems. Alternatively, a combination of education and experience equal to six (6) years is acceptable.  

Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree in a relevant field, prior higher education teaching experience, experience with Canvas Learning Management System, a working knowledge of the universal design and creation of ADA compliant online courses, and proficiency with multimedia authoring tools.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted.
