Role

Head of School (Middle Years) will provide day-to-day leadership of the Engagement and Wellbeing teams on campus, working with Year Level Coordinators and support staff to ensure that the school develops and maintains a safe, orderly and positive learning environment and culture.
 

Working with the College Principal Team, the Head of School will provide proactive leadership on the campus to ensure that DET and school frameworks are in place and operating in a consistent and high-quality way to support student engagement. 

They will also provide responsive leadership to support staff and students to manage incidents and issues in a way that is in line with DET and school expectations, is safe and sensitive to the school community, and which continues to strengthen a strong, inclusive and positive school culture.

They will work as a team with the College Principal Team, Campus Leadership Team and Operations Team to ensure that the school has a well planned and organised calendar of programs to support learning and engagement.

Working with well-established school-based models in both teaching and learning and student engagement, as well as the DET¿s Victorian Teaching and Learning Model and associated resources, the Assistant Principal ¿ Head of School will help drive a culture of growth and consistency across the college.

Responsibilities

The key roles of the Head of School (Middle Years) may include but are not limited to:

Working with the Campus Principal and Assistant Principal to lead the day to day operations of the Campus. This includes leading the Student Engagement Team in the management and support of students across the Campus:  Taking responsibility for managing incidents involving student behaviour in line with school and DET expectations and requirements  Leading the embedding of the Student Engagement Model (SEM) & School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework.  Monitoring and supporting improved student attendance.  Using an individualised approach to engage with students and families to support improved learning, engagement and wellbeing outcomes, including developing education and behaviour management plans where required.  Promoting and celebrating student achievement at assemblies and Campus Awards events. Building a supportive and growth focused culture within the Student Engagement Team. Working with the Campus Principal and Assistant Principal to ensure that key campus events and initiatives run in an effective and organised manner. Work with the school leadership team to analyse key data related to student engagement and behaviour and support the review, documentation and consistent application of student management processes. Contribute as a member of the College Consultation and Planning Standing Committee, and develop and review processes effectively to manage risk in line with DET requirements. Ensuring that the college is managing risk in line with DET requirements, and that an organisational culture of Child safety is being strengthened and embedded at all times. Providing visible and supportive leadership to the school community at all times, in line with the of the values of both Mill Park Secondary College. Deputise for Campus and or Assistant Principal when required, and perform any other duties as required by the Principal.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
