Purpose

The Research Engineering / Scientist Associate I will assist with research in geomechanical modeling of fracture growth at the Devine Fracture Pilot Site and laboratory and field experiment support for electromagnetic monitoring of plugged and abandoned wells.

Responsibilities
  • Laboratory and field experiment support for electromagnetic monitoring of plugged and abandoned wells; contribution to the design and construction of laboratory and field scale experimental setups, and characterization and procurement of required materials, and data acquisition and analyses
  • Development of geomechanical models for fracture propagation at the Devine Fracture Pilot Site and validation of these models using fiber optic data
  • Assists in rock mechanics laboratory uniaxial and triaxial loading experiments, reorganization of the rock mechanics laboratory infrastructure at the BEG, maintenance of a list of required items for keeping the GCTS loading machine active, searching for prospective purchases, and analysis of the test results to suggest future tests and their potential applications
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and experience with engineering or scientific equipment. Knowledge about fundamentals of rock and fracture mechanics. Experience in hydraulic-fracture modeling using finite-element software programs. Experience in working with industry-scale loading machines. Petroleum engineering education. Drilling engineering background (e.g., cement and drilling fluid formulation design and preparation). Experience in laboratory and field studies and design of experimental setups. Experience in computer program developments. Proven communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a group and an office, laboratory, and field environment.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in working with Abaqus software program. Experience in working with GCTS RTR-1000 loading machine. Proficiency in developing Python codes. Proficiency in 3D modeling with AutoCAD software program. Experience in core-flooding experiments
