An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).

A role at this range may include:

Specific support tasks to achieve outcomes. Typically, this will involve accountability for a single function, ( ensuring data is properly maintained) or the co-ordination of a work area under the direction of the principal or a manager. Preparing food Replenishing stock Support students in food preparation and hygiene Helping keep the canteen in line with set standards Serve students and staff Cleaning of the canteen daily, and conclusion of term Adherence with WHS and Risk Management policies

Responsibilities

Provide routine support for volunteer canteen helpers Communicate with teachers on routine matters related to students and/or other responsibilities Provide basic physical care and wellbeing support for students such as hygiene, safety, and lifting Communicating with student/s to support comprehension of basic tasks and information Address immediate behavioural presentations relating to specific students within a canteen setting aligned to school policy and procedure Provide medical intervention support to a student/s, under specific conditions, with appropriate training and guidance

Gladstone Park Primary School aims to provide a teaching and learning environment that effectively supports students to reach their potential, including high achieving and special needs students. The school provides many specialist teachers and supports this through dedicated facilities for a number of the associated learning areas. Gladstone Park Primary School opened in 1970 and is situated in a residential estate in the Northwestern suburbs, close to Melbourne Airport. The school is located next to Gladstone Park Secondary College. The present enrolment of 402 students is located in 16 fully air-conditioned classrooms.

The Victorian School Building Authority has developed a Master Plan for the staged modernisation of the school. Stages One and Two have seen the construction of eight new state-of-the art classrooms along with withdrawal spaces/meeting rooms and staff offices. The second stage, completed in 2021- also saw the provision of a new student amenities block.

Although the majority of our students were born in Australia, many of their parents migrated from other countries and speak another language at home.

The dedicated and committed staff team work very well together in professional learning communities to support the children in their social, emotional, academic and physical development. The School Council provides outstanding leadership and support for the staff and parents of the Gladstone Park community.

Gladstone Park Primary School provides a balanced curriculum featuring quality, sequential programs. The Victorian Curriculum is used as the framework for teaching and learning programs.

Specialist programs are offered in Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Physical Education, Languages (Italian), Library and English as an Additional Language (EAL). There are intervention programs in place to support students¿ literacy and numeracy skills development.

The Arts represents a major curriculum focus, involving, specialist programs, annual concerts, violin lessons, and a chamber choir.

The challenge the school faces is to continue to strive for excellence in outcomes for the students by ensuring programs remain relevant, age-appropriate and effective.

The School Strategic Plan identifies improved Student Learning as a major improvement area. The school places a great emphasis on developing consistent high-level teaching and learning strategies in literacy and numeracy, supported by significant professional development.
